Hi
I have this major problem with my Nokia N97, i was listening to music and suddenly it stopped working, i had two options retry or stop, and whatever i pressed the memory just dissapeared, E: hard disc was totally corrupted, and till now i cant access it. All my things dissapeared. I tryed to restore it somehow but nothing helps. Is there any way out i can make it functional again?
Nokia n97 (E;) memory problem
A similar thing happened to me. My Messages application stopped working: I could not delete or open messages.
I tried reverting back to factory settings, reinstalling firmware and hard-resetting.
What fixed it for me was formatting the E memory. You can then restore your phone to whenever you last backed up. Unfortunately, anything you had lost due to the fault, will remain lost.
Look, this phone is disappointing. When my contract expires, i'm going to find myself a nice and robust mobile.

I think you're comment is a bit unfair as most N97 owners have not experienced mass memory drive corruption like you described.
Is it possible that some 3rd party app either of you installed in your N97 corrupted the mass memory drive, and not a Nokia bug?
Sony have recently withdrawn their flagship 12MP spartphone from sale due to software bugs, so other manufacturers may be no better.
I think you will find that the N97 (with V20 FW and GPS/cameral lens cover fixes) is now as reliable as any other handset on the market.

i have to agree with you - only once i got my phone repaired and v20 installed though - i have to say it was a dog before that.
I havent had any problems since v20 it is about on par (crash and problem wise) as my old n95-1 which was pretty reliable.
only bug bear i have is if its locked and you get a call if the phone was in landscape and you pick it up to swipe as you do this it changes to portrait and you have to wait before trying to swipe again - this lag seems like an age!!!
Before V20 update no freezes at all, after V20 update freezes everyday, at least twice, some seem to get an improved phone, most seem to have the same or worse than it was. this is my first Nokia for years, and will be my last at this rate, Android is looking very good at the moment, and as for the ovi store, well if you want something worth while then you will have to pay money for it, where as there are lots of very usefull free apps for Android, even free sat nav, maybe Nokia should look to Android for hints as to how to build something worth while. Of all the phones and O/S's out there on the market, the N97 and Satio, which both run S60 V5 are the ones getting the worst reveiws.

Do a hard reset and restore everything except settings.
Also (and this doesn't seem consistent) I did experience problems with my mass (E: ) drive after one firmware update whilst performing hard resets having left the micro SD (F: ) in the phone. Subsequently I have removed it after saving the back up to it (remembering to use Options -> remove memory card, so as not to risk corrupting it) then performing resets and then reinserting the card and restoring from it. Not had a problem since.
As I said not consistent problem but did see some reports of it on the Nokia support forums and taking the mem card out seemed to do the trick. And as Ironass said above do do a reset even Nokia now admit that this is the only way to get firmware updates to work properly.
