Updating my E71 to the new firmware 400.21.013, has resulted in a complete loss of data connections, GPRS (3G mobile packet data), home WiFi, and GPS.
I've never had a problem with any previous E71 firmware upgrades, and now I'm really wishing that I'd left it on v300.
Have tried reinstalling the firmware, hard resets and anything else that I can think of. My E71 smart-phone is now a very dumb-phone, makes/receives calls/texts but has no data connection at all -- I always get the 'Connection not Available !' error message.
I'm at a complete loss what to try next .....
-- is there anyway to get this version off my phone and go back to v300?
Did you check the settings for Accesspoints ? Settings > Connectivity > Accesspoints .

Yes, all my Access Points appear to be intact and all the settings look OK. I really don't understand what's going on here!
You cannot retrieve the 300xxx firmware . So do a hard reset , VDG preferred . Have a backup of all your personal data first . See my post here :

Or have the phone reflashed at a Nokia Servicepoint

Hi,
In case that your access points are there because you've put a backup on the phone: delete them and put them back in manually. This is a known problem for this firmware.

Good suggestion!
I tried deleting all access points and resetting my known access points but ...
it still doesn't appear to work.
What I do notice is that the WiFi icon opens on the top of the screen and never goes away. When I try to use another data program (Tweets60) it reports that the the 'WLAN connection is already open: close connection and try again'.
However when I look in Connectivity>Conn. Manager>Active Data Connections nothing at all is displayed
Icon show up can be a little confusing . The WLAN icon , indicates two different options :
1) when phone is connected
2) when phone is not connected , it shows when WLAN is available .
The last option can be set to : Off . Settings > Connect > Wlan > Show Availability > Never .
Now the icon shows only when you are connected .
However I still think there might be some software corruption . A hard reset can help .

Solved at last!
Actually I had already tried soft and hard resets and the so-called three finger trick without success. This evening I took out the SIM card and Memory card, then did a hard reset and have rebuilt the setup access points etc from scratch ... and yes now its working, yippee 😊
Many thanks for all who offered support and suggestions, its good to know that there is a supportive community out there 😊
However this really has not been a good experience, users really shouldn't have to go through hell when they decide to upgrade their firmware. I like to think I'm a bit of a technophile, but this episode has tested my patience!
