Am I the only one who complains about the software suite on the PC?
My god, what SE delivers here is a piece of crap. I count ten (10!!) tasks in my task manager with a total of 50MB just to wait for a sync job??? It messes up MAPI quite well (could work for many standard outlook users but NEVER try to get it work with other MAPI apps) and there is NO way to edit the data (like with Palm Desktop, which is compared to this s**t a slim app that allows full editing and import/export of data - you don't need Outlook or other loser proggies). And it is TERRIBLY slow.
What the heck has SE bought there from Symbian? Can't they develop a slim, simple, fast sync tool???
I bought the P800 cause I wanted phone & PDA functionality in one nice device. So far so good. But a PDA is just as good as the software that syncs your data. At least for me.
I'm seriously considering selling my P800 and get a PalmOS device, even if know that there is none that has all the nice things like the P800...
I'm very disappointed.
it is complete turd.
it takes over my serial port for some reason, even though i'm connecting over USB.
somehow it also causes the p800 emulator to crash!
wtf?
Agreed.
I couldn't believe how many apps requested access via my firewall when I installed the software, not to mention RAM usage
I equally disappointed with the sync. s/w. Up till now after two weeks of experimentation, I still do not have a solution - how to deal with categories or folders in Outlook Contacts.
The bloody Notes synchronization always fails.
Not to mention that if uncradled if usb connection checked my computer runs slower than a snail!! if having same problem just uncheck usb box in router properties.
I've encountered with the same problems while using the old PC Suite SW on my Win2k+Office2k. The memory usage went up to 120Mb until synchronization even started.
The funny thing is that with the same old SW installed on WinXP+OfficeXP all worked well.
The good news -- I've now installed the new version of PC-Suite (Ver. 1.1.1) from SE Support web site, and now synchronization is smooth like a butter.
Regarding the speed over USB : Check in your P800 under:ControlPanel-->Connections-->Cable that the baudrate is 480000 and not 115200.
Have a nice weekend, Itay
You are far too generous in your description of the Sync Software - in 20 years of professional programming it is the worst hash up I have ever encountered!
If I had the free time I would seriously consider writing a replacement - I know that this would be the killer application.
It does indeed install a myriad of ill behaved modules all interfering with your firewall.
If does indeed run slower than a 9600baud modem - well obviously freeing up a spare USB2 was a waste of time.
And what the smeg is that constant clicking noise coming from the PC after loading the software?
At the moment I have the sync software on a ghosted image of my C: drive - at least that way I only need to tolerate it for a "short" time while I'm actually using it.
Sqiz.
I have the p800 software installed and yesterday I installed a TDK bluetooth adaptor.
Data transfers are faster for me over bluetooth than using the cradle.
The TDK software is just a bad as the p800 software. Today I have to buy more RAM (I already have 384mb PC133) 😡
This PC Suite is very bad. I had the 7650 before, but this software was two times better.
I am able to connect the P800 via bluetooth, the snych works, but after 5-6 minutes the windows explorer crashes with the microsoft error window (you can send the problem to microsoft bla bla bla). After starting the explorer again the connection is still on an I can work in all folders of the p800, but the notebook doesnt load the touchpad driver and so I can not use many functions of it (click on the right top corner to maximize the windows etc). I am really angry about this damn SE software, I hope there will be an update very soon.
At the beginning I had the problem that the second user account on my XP notebook couldnt start the snych because the hermes.mdb is exclusivly used from another account. I installed the software again and tried it first with my favorite account, since then it is working, but I dont believe I solved the problem, maybe it was luck or it is sleeping in the background.
Guys I be with you.
Ciao
Christian
ok, now we all agree and know the problems. what is the solution ? is SE going to revamp this program in near future ? can we get a third party to rewrite this s/w, that supposedly accomodates all our wishes ?
Is any third-party s/w company interested ?
firstly - check your SUB COM port settings - mine was running at 9600 bps.
secondly - i don't think the underlying sync mechanism is written by SE, or possibly even by Symbian. I think it's a company called Intuwave.
the only complaint i have is actually with the inability of my p800 to open a bluetooth serial port connection to my pc dongle.

WOW!!! That's the best information I have gotten for the P800!! what a difference!! It's much faster after changing the Baudrate in device manager for "USB Cable DCU-11 (COM3)" I cranked it up to max!!
