Does your N97 do this too? Try and let me know.
On the main screen, tab on contact
Then tab on Add (the picture of a person with a + sign)
on the 'First Name', type on your keyboard the following letters: ku
At this point, my contact application disappears, back to the main home screen.
My version was 11.0.021. After updating it to 12.0.026, the problem still exists.
Have no clue why. Phone glitch? Bug?
I have v20. Typing "ku" in for a new contact did nothing abnormal.
Maybe your contact database is corrupted?
How did you get the contacts to the N97? PC Suite? Ovi Suite? SIM card?

Contacts are from SIM card. I'm not trying to search for an existing contact. I'm trying to add a new one. And every time I type in the name "ku..." the contact application turns off.
Should I try erasing all contacts from phone memory and copy again from SIM card, or vice versa?
From experience with similar "bugs" on my Nokia 9300, the first thing I'd do would be to look for some unprintable character hidden in one of your other contacts that might be causing the database to behave as you describe. If you find something, try editing it out.
Second, I would try saving to PC Suite or Ovi Suite and then reviewing there (also looking for "odd" entries"😉. Then do a fresh restore from the back-up followed by a reboot.
Lastly, I would try deleting the old contacts database and re-enter each one.
