One of the big selling points about the original Nokia N95, N86 and 5730 XpressMusic (among others) has been that they have hardware music controls. So, while pocketed, or while in another application, or even with eyes closed in bed at night, you can still skip music tracks, pause podcasts, and so on. But with the new breed of touchscreen phones, you're out of luck in this department. Or are you? I am using an N86 type handsfree device (shown by Steve) with my N82 after the one I got with my N82 caught in a door handle and one side died.
When I press the "play" button on it, it launches the music player automatically! Does it do that on N97 etc.?
p.s. I can't decide between N86 and N97 mini... pls help

I've had two of those HS-83s - both out of the box, with my N95 and my N96. Both have failed on me mainly I think because there is a battery inside (please correct me if I'm wrong), and this goes after a while (I do listen to a lot of music). In the end, I am a huge fan of the dual slide form-factor, because as you say Steve, you can use it in your pocket. The other suggestion in the article was voice-control, but you're going to start to look a bit silly on the London Tube talking to your phone..."No, I said Neil Young, not Paul Young" 😊
Anyone know who makes these headphones that come with them the in-ear ones? They sound so good. I don't use the controls, I would just like to buy some headphones like them but full cord length.
These handsfree devices are useful in non-touch devices as well... I dont want to shove my hands in my pocket everytime to change the song, when i can just do it on a button hanging on my neck...
the easiest control is the N93/N93i with the side d-pad/joystick
Even no need to open the flip.
Prob. of N95/N86 is to slide out from the other side which is not convenient in the pocket. But compare to other phones they are good.

Yes - I use the one shown in the article with the E55 (it came with my N95 8GB originally).
I criticize Nokia for many things, but this I have to give them credits for: they bundle excellent wired remote controls with their handsets. What I like about them most is that they usually have a 3.5mm jack output, so they can be used with other headphones.
