Hi, new to the forum so be gentle. I've had my 9210 3 days now and i've a couple of questions.

1). I'm trying to store a .htm page on the memory card, i can copy it over but the file manager say properties unknow, the browser says can't open file, and it looks like it thinks it's a word doc..

It's just a plain text page, formatted with tables ..

2). I can't run any of the videos downloaded from the net (Http//fp.somewhere.f9.co.uk/n9210/NIMS/nims_Music.html) - i put them on the memory card, load video player ( which i re-installed several times and it says "PLAYBACK ERROR - NOT FOUND" -

3). I've found how to lock the number pad, but how do you lock the organise to stop anyone getting at the details

Sorry abou this; i have read the manuals - honest

4). I have set the 9210 to dial-up to the intenert and download emails via my ISP, but our bog standard dial-up into the lAN won't accept a call from the 9210 and drops the connection, it lets an ericson T98 through with no probelms...

Your time is appricated, and i hope to be of use to you one day.

Regards
Terry

Hi Newbie,

Welcome to the growing world of Symbian! You should not be disappointed (I know I'm not)!

Here are some comments which may tide you by until a pro can come along and help;

1.
Did you just drag and drop it (the file) over to the 9210 in Windows? If you did, it could be that it is being converted to a Word document. Drag it onto the 9210 using the Right Mouse Button and select 'Copy' and not 'Copy and Convert'. Also, check the extension.

2.
I've seen this but can't remember the fix since I don't use my communicator for Multimedia, sorry.

3.
Control Panel -> Security -> Autolock. Unfortunately, I don't know how to manually lock it but this setting will force it to lock after your specified number of minutes of inactivity.

4.
What authentication are you using on your Dial-In server? Clearly, you don't want to use Plain Text, but try it and see if that works (naybe play with the 'Allow Plain Text Login' option in the settings for your connection?

You can lock both sides with password by typing "menu + #" on the phone side. It will ask for the password.

Thanks guy's

when trying to install office from the nokia CD - it seems to want to default to the c\ drive or communicator - it doesn't give me the option of installing it on the MM card - any ideas ??

working from home, lost net access - phone saved my arse - i love it..

I think it defaults to the memory card anyway. An application folder will be created on the C drive for the initialisation file, but the application should be on the external card.

Firstly let me say thanks for using my site (www.n9210.co.uk). The main problem here is usually caused by PC Suite trying to convert the file when you copy it. To get around that when you copy the NIM file, drag it with the right mouse button and when the popup window appears (when you release the button), select copy only instead of copy and convert. If the problem is whith realplayer files then you'll find that when you download .RM files with internet explorer, it re-names them to .RAM which the 9210 doesn't know what to do with.

Hope this helps, if not let me know.

Regards

Many thanks guys.

All of the help so far has solved most problems, and the links to other sites are superb...

A superb forum

As to Q.1. Have you installed all the file viewers, (there are 5 bunches) either from the c.d. or from nokia's website? They cover m$ office apps and a whole lot of other file types which may be the default your p.c. is sending.
And if you go into control panel/security/autolock and set your time to one minute you should have no probs with anyone using your innards!!

Using the "Right Click copy" has sorted the Ringtones, Web page, but .NIM files still can "not be found" by the communicator, there are on the memory card but when loading them Film Viewer says not founds..

Security issues sorted - thanks..

Does anyone use their nokia to get into secure networks ? I need the terminal window to come up, but even after selecting the option to open terminal window when dialing nothing happens..
