New N97--upgrade to 2.0 — Nokia Nseries S60 5.0 phones (Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 mini)

Ok guys, I got my new N97 yesterday. So far looks and seems pretty cool. I went to update the firmware before I put all my stuff on it, but according to my Code 0575400 it has the most current version which is the 12.2.024. The Nokia web site tells me I am up to date?? Is there certain ones that don't need the update. My is a US one as far as I know? Or do I just update it anyway???
Need some advice please?

All depends on a variety of factors whether you can access to the latest v20; these tend to be based around whether your phone is 'branded' or not eg network branded? Did you buy it as part of a monthly package / upgrade? In this instance, you will have to wait til the network approves its version of v20 before you get access to it.

If you bought it sim free / handset only, then you *should* be able to get immediate access to the latest FW, BUT some countries again to have to wait. I'm in Saudi Arabia, and bought a sim free phone, but still had to wait around two weeks after everyone else got hold of v20. One option though is to take the phone to a Nokia Care Centre and they should be able to update it for you, free of charge of course, but this is I think only for 'unbranded' handsets.

Another option is to 'debrand ' the phone yourself, giving it it a different product code - one which already can get access to v20 - however, as I'm sure you're aware, this will probably invalidate your warranty on the phone.

But if the phone is working ok on v12, I would probaby suggest waiting til you can update it legitimately.

Yes I plan to hang on to my E90. It is a great phone. Like my E90 my N97 is unbranded so it should be able to be upgraded. But I had the same thoughts as you, if it works fine just leave it alone.

hi, authorized nokia SCs will be able to upgrade your phone for you at no fee,just bring it over to them and say you want v20 on it. they will flash it for you

Thanks. I know how to do it. Its not hard doing it on line. I did it to my E90 on several occasions. I was just wondering if since it said my phone wasn't in that particular Code category, if it would hurt anything to try to upgrade it or not????

Also here in the states and maybe just the Northwest, I have never seen a Nokia service center. I would have to send it off.

rooty, that's what i meant, if your product code shows no updates yet, jsut send it over to the SC and they will reflash it for u

as for you being in the states, theres a post here somewhere about sending it to an SC in one of the states and getting back within a week
