Still have GPS issues!

Hi,

I am on my third N97, this one a Euro White bought in September, came with V12 and I updated myself to V20.

GPS is still very unreliable, in the car I have to use a Bluetooth GPS and if I want to walk about without it then forget it, constantly losing signal and way out on my position.

The final straw for my N97 came when the touch screen stopped working properly, I'd push buttons and it would do something further down the screen or just not respond, which made the keyboard not work either.

Took it to a NCP and he said they have had a lot of N97's go back for a new touch bit on the front because all the connectors come out down the bottom by the hang-up button.

After dropping it off I went to Phones4U and got myself the X6, amazing phone, just an N97 without the keyboard and with 12 months CWM.

So when I collected it I thought I'd have a test of the GPS on my way home from Brighton to Gatwick, had the phones side by side, both had my location without the Bluetooth GPS. So I set off, the X6 all the way was perfect, not one drop out or any jumps, always knew where I was, the N97 on the other hand, was still 500yds behind, constant dropping out, jumping me into a field and then recalculating my route on the country roads next to the A/M23 where I was going, very annoying.

So even with a NCP flash of V20 and a newer handset still no joy.

I might make a video of a journey with the X6 and N97 to show you how bad the N97 is.

I may send the N97 off again for a GPS repair/replacement see if that helps it.

Keiran.

As you seem to be well aware, the GPS issue is a hardware problem, not a Firmware or Software one.
There's no point at all in posting a comparson between an N97 with a faulty GPS antenna and another brand of handset until you have the GPS repair done.
If I had been you, I would have asked the NCC to fix the GPS, Camera Lens cover and Touch-Screen all at the same time... no?

Had you previously downloaded Map data, via Map Downloader, to either phone prior to your journey?
