The application development system Python for S60 has finally reached the big version 2.0, at least in runtime form, and is being pushed out via SW_Update on selected S60 phones. I've done some screens of the availability and installation process below on the Nokia N86. I daresay an official announcement and a full development release is also imminent. Watch this space.
Read on in the full article.
What is Python used for? Is it worth the installation? I have noticed this on my N86 for about 2 weeks now but didn't download it as I don't want an app to take up space if it won't do anything for me.
GOD! i really wish they integrate python/qt and all these frameworks within the firmware updates, they take up way too much c drive space!!! 😞
Yes - I would appreciate an article on Python, ie. what it is and what it does
My N96 did this update a few days ago.
which application are available for python ?
Python is a very tidy and easy to learn programming language available on many platforms - mostly windows and linux, you do the dev on a desktop and run it against the python engine in the phone.

Although these are for the 'old' Python 1.4.5 runtime.
That's pretty sweet, I'm glad Nokia has initiative to push out an updated official Python package.
For those not familiar with Python, its a programming language and runtime engine that allows you to write your own apps on Symbian without dealing with most of the inner workings of the system. It's worth learning and try to write your own app in your spare time. 😊

I hope Nokia would integrate this in their future firmwares so majority of users could run Python apps more seamlessly.

That's true of Python for S60. More generically, 'Python' is a far bigger project than just S60 phones.
