Flew back in on Thursday, and still cannot get warm! Was a lovely 26c in Jeddah on Weds, and landed at Heathrow 6am to be met by a 2c climate.Jumpers, jackets, hats and scarves have been sought all over the house, but sadly, I can't find my gloves....
Otherwise, the N97 is fine...a tenuous phone related post.
Good luck to anyone using an iPhone in this weather, eh? 😉
Speaking of which - anyone tried using their touchscreen phones with gloves on?
I've just tried myself, and successfully played a game of solitare with a gloved hand. I had to aim a teenie bit higher cos obviously it's not quite as accurate while wearing gloves, but the OS can be navigated and phone calls can be made easily enough.
^^^^^
eh? WTF?
Not tried using the phone with gloves yet. Probaby cos I can't find 'em....
Next question - in this frozen climate, anyone tried using the phone with frozen fingers? You know, when your hands are so cold, you can't move your fingers properly? And then when you put them under warm running water - it's painful?
Does the phone's OS slow down in very cold weather?
Inane questions for a Sunday afternoon.

You managed to make me envious of your recent visit to warm climes! 😉

.
As the screen is resistive, gloves (and cold stiff fingers) should have no effect on the touch screen. Capacitative screens (e.g. iPhone) dont work (well) with gloves.
Although the OS will not run slower in cold weather, if you let the handset get cold enough then the handset will power off or freeze (in every sense!)
Perhaps your N97 will run faster in the cold and generate less EM so the GPS is perfect!! Yeah right and the next FW will have all the possible enhancements we could want and no bugs.....

N97 GPS is perfect once repaired (free under warranty).
It really amazes me folks are STILL bringing this up as a negative/critisism. lol
1. I've used my N97 while gloved (Isotoner knit gloves). It was a good experience and I had few problems making calls or working Nokia Maps. I was also using it one-handed using only my left thumb (dog leash in right hand).
2. I've had the GPS repair and notice that it runs much better in cold weather than when it is hot. And it gets H-O-T in Texas.
3. You guys don't know cold until you've been to northern Minnesota in the winter time. The arctic jet stream detaches and slides down to make subzero tempertures across northern Minnesota and North Dakota. The coldest that I experienced there was -52F (-47 C) without the wind chill.
Now, that IS cold....
Remember going to New York a few years ago ( 2004 ) , was there in mid Feb, and the temp then was around 15F (-10 c ) and that felt VERY cold indeed. I think that it about the coldest I have ever experienced, and no desire to experience anything as cold as that again! New York was fabulous though, loved it.
In those days I'd gone back to using my old Nokia 6310i - now that was another solid performer.
Lucky buggers, it is 42c here in Adelaide (AUS) here today. Windy dusty and all. But the beer is freeeezing cold and the girls on the beach are sans tops...woohoo

How inconsiderate. No pics.........😃😃😃
I noticed when taking my N97 out in temps of around -10 last week that it had a couple of problems: firstly, I'd get a "simcard registration failed" message (this was also the case with my N95) and also the camera had problems focusing sometimes.
These problems were avoided by keeping the phone in a warm pocket.
And I managed to use the touch screen with a gloved hand.
