What applications are open

Is there a list of what applications are open? I suspect that there is a program that keeps opening on its own, but I can't see any. My battery has died very quickly in the past few weeks and I'm thinking it is because there is an application that is open that I don't know about.

Holding down the menu button will show you what apps _you've_ opened.
But if it's something running in the background it won't show there
and you need to install a third party app such as JB taskman to see these.
It's like task manager on your pc.

Thank you daniel. I held down my menu button and saw something called standby. Is that normal? I also notice that I see gallery (images and videos) open all the time on its own. Is there a way to prevent this?

Yeah standby is normal, it's to take you back to your home screen from within another app to multi-task.
Gallery is normal too and the phone needs this to open pictures/video etc, but shouldn't show in your long menu press, it runs in the background.

When I check JBakTaskman - Processes and Threads , I cannot find Gallery in Function . Only when I open Gallery , it is there .
When I open Gallery , it takes about 2 minutes before it is open . There is a big load of pictures (3,500) and Clips (550) . In case Gallery was running in the background , the App should be open in an instant .
Anyway I think it only runs in the background when the Gallery is already opened on forehand : then the Gallery Icon , or longpressing the Menu/Multitasking button brings me there immediately , since it is running in the background . Also visible in JBakTaskman .
When opening a picture from Filemanager , it is not the complete Gallery that opens , but just the Imageviewer .

The batterydrain could be just the battery , which is getting old : approx 2 years , sometimes less ? Get an original one , they are normally the best .

Yeah your right mate, gallery doesn't show on taskman after a reboot, until you've had it open. Your gallery is taking so long to open due to the sheer amount of pictures and videos you've got.

The battery life has always been crap on these, they put a bigger battery in the 8Gb but it's still a joke. I have an external battery charger and 2 batteries, that way I can always have the spare charging.

I have found that gallery kept opening on its own about a week ago, and ever since then my battery would die off within 8hrs. Each time I close the gallery, it reopens on its own. Prior to this problem, my battery would last 2 days without recharge. I have also found that within this same time period, the gallery shortcut has showed up on my main screen whereas it was not there before. Prior to this, Garmin GPS shortcut was in its place, since then, the Garmin shortcut has disapeared, and the Gallery shortcut took its place. I also remember that before this period, the Garmin would also open on its own for no reason at all. I am also quite upset that Garmin would disapear on its own. I have gone to the applications manager, and it has appeared to have disapeared entirely. However, the Garmin files are still in my memory card.

Your story looks like the Garmin app is linked to the Gallery app , to be able to operate ?
Garmin settings will be causing Gallery to auto-launch ?
When you want to keep Garmin , adress to them how to solve your issue .
Otherwise you will need a device reset or a reflash , excluding recovery of settings .

I think your memory card has become corrupted and formatting it and re-installing Garmin is the way I would go.
Why I think this: When you connect your phone to the pc in data transfer mode it effectively disconnects itself from the memory card and similar symptoms are experienced. Namely, any apps installed on the memory card with shortcuts on active desktop will be replaced by default firmware embedded Nokia apps (such as Gallery). Also any apps installed on the memory card will not show in application manager.
So it seems your phone cant read the card properly even with it connected, I would definitely try a format. A ball ache I know, but it should solve your problems.

Is it possible for me to disable the gallery application completely because it is opening automatically and draining my batteries.
