How about an app that opens car doors and deactivates the alarm. haha. Im only joking, but seriously could this be done.
IR to open car doors
It is possible but there has to be someone to write this app.
Wouldn't it be great if your phone battery died, then not only could you not get in your car but you couldn't even phone the AA. 😃
Sounds like a good idea but IR for cars seems a bit weak to me, you need line of sight to have it working. What about BT? Car could be equipped with BT transponder, then handset serves as "keyless" device.
Do you guys know what kind of security mechanisms can be set on BT communication for that matter?
that's a great idea! but wait... lets see in the other way... when somebody stole your phone with bluetooth capability to access your car, lets just say GOOD BYE CAR also??? 😃
LOL!! 😃
That's exactly why you need security code through BT communication. When someone steals your car keys, he also goes with the car, unless there is an extra code.
There is so much car-jacking nowadays where thieves don't even care breaking your window but go directly for your keys (and your head if you're fast enough...). With a RF remote device, one could add another security layer: you enter your car with normal key but need an extra code from the mobile through BT to completely deactivate the security system, it's discreet as you do it inside the car. For those who care less about security, go for complete keyless alarm and open the car through BT.
This will be an easy app to make.plus a very dangerous one.
If you know how to programme in the source code for an application for the symbian platform, then wouldn't it be possible to make any application? or are there limitations to the source codes? apart from the limitations on the phone.
Walking upo to your car, opens up itself.
Starts playing your favorit music.
Starts engine.
Sounds good.
Need a BT computer in your car (combined MP3 player 😃 )
How about getting home and yout house 'knows' your coming.
Coffee is ready when entering.
Heater is on
Sound is playing.
Could also open door (off lock)
exists...partially.

its a brave new world 😃
but no cars equipped with infra red
normal car alarm and keyless go entry is using frequency transmitter , not irda. 😞
I used to have a Rover 820 that rolled out of the factory with an IR remote installed for the alarm/central locking.
Oh the dangers of making swooping statements!
MOST cars do not have IR
oh yeah ??/
maybe my mistake :P
sorry.
but isn't that dangerous when the alarm is using ir??
i mean that's very easy to encode the ir transmission ,
unlike the frequency transmitter.
any other has car with ir ???
Hi .
I have a car with demote ir.
Its a renault scnic and the remote lock is ir.
the software irRemote from PsiNT is very good. I would buy it when released.
But it could be better... if we could costumize the sw... like create a layout with the most used commands... I meen copy the ir from several ir remotes... and assign them to the irRemore butons :fadein:
I think this software has a lot of promise (like MiniGPS by the same people).
Additional functionality will appear very quickly - once its released 😃
But I can't say I'm happy about the prospect of cars being opened via the 7650!

But its not that easy to open a car... its like radio remotes... you need the original remote to make a clone.
I have at home a remote ir that can be used to copy ir signals, but I need the original.
Its like making a key for a door.
My scnic is ir but I dont worry about it.

I love the infrared controller app aswell, I started this post not because im a car theif but I would like to see a few of my freinds faces when we come out of the local off licence and I unlock their car door and deactivate their alarm with my phone.haha. Also I think it would have been better if you could change the channels with the keypad instead of toggling the joystick. Maybe in the finished version.
well my stang has a normal transmitter so too bad.
ok, cars which use IR also use security codes which change every time the lock is used to prevent this from happening, at least on any semi-decent less than 30 year old car.
Think about it, whats to stop some gypsy in the car park with his 1 for all remote picking up your car code when you unlock it with the remote - it would be frankly ridiculous!
It could still be done (just!) but would require you to programme the software with the algorithm used by the car for each car - definately not worth the effort i think!
couldn't someone make a device which scans across all the IR ranges and eventually it would get the correct one?
