I have to say that I am now officially happy with my N97.
Nokia Maps is running fine, with free voice guidance, the newest FW seems to have sorted two of the main bugs that irritated me, and all seems to be working well ( famous last words no doubt? )
It's only been around 7 months! But I think it will just keep getting better and better now, with the newer FW releases no doubt coming regularly, the phone is finally the phone it should have been when I bought in June last year.
Although I was severely tempted to get rid of it last year, I am now glad I didn't, as it starting to deliver the goods ( for me and my uses ) .
youve got alot more patience then me buddy , glad your finally happy after 7 months of perserverence with the handset
iam not sure there will be loads more updates to the n97 classic due to the limited ram and limited c drive they will struggle to advance the handset anymore , just look at the trouble with nokia maps and the cdrive a week ago
its a shame as it would have been nice to have symbian3 running on it but nokia messed that up by not including the hardware to future proof the device for over 6 months
iam sure we will see another 2 -3 updates but they will probs be more optimisaton on squeezing every kb possible out of the rom and ram rather then new features
if only they had put 256mb or rom and ram in the 1st place they wouldnt have to spend valuable time trying to get more memory out of it
its good to see owners finally getting a workable n97 and a shame its taken nokia 7 months to sort this mess out to a workable standard
Congratulations Notty !!! I'm really very very happy for you 😃
I've been happy with my N97 since V20, so now you'll belong in the same boat as us other contented users who've basically stopped writing on this forum because we have nothing to complain about :frown: - and are a little bit afraid to sing the praises of our handsets for fear of castigation and ridicule by those who are less happy.
Considering that Nokia are still updating firmware for their S60V3 handsets, i feel sure that there will be plenty more improvements for their V5 devices and that we have much more to look forward to.
Bless your heart Notty, i'm really chuffed for you 😊

The N95 suffered exactly the same RAM problems as the N97 and these were sorted out in a series of updates to rectify the situation.
The N95, now nearly 3 years old received a v35 firmware update about a month ago.
The fact that the N97 and mini are closely linked, as are the N95 and N95 8GB. means that we can look forward to more firmware updates. 😊
the n95 is a different kettle of fish ian , it had 64mb ram , no live widgets , different version of o/s , was more populaur and supported by more networks for ages some networks have only just stopped selling n95s
the n97 classic has been dropped by all major network providers due to returns rates
the n97 mini is being sold by vodafone and has been out of stock on orange for ages now people are reporting they have also dropped it from their range
the n97 is no where near as populaur as the n95 was so why will it follow the same update patterns?? has every other phone followed the n95 update pattern??
the n95 was saved due to demand paging in v20 , i believe this is allready present in the n97 firmware , i wouldnt expect much more ram if i was you out of 128mb on s60 5th not unless they can add virtual ram like the n900
to be honest nokia are moving on , they will support the n97 , it will get the odd minor update stopping hacks and addimng a few little patches to glitches but it wont be major updates , what can they do with it?? no 3d gfx support , low ram , low processor , it had trouble with the maps latest update , even nokia admitted the n97 c drive was so low they had to workaround it
out of intrest what would you like to see nokia implement in future updates?? i really dont think they can do much more with it apart from inplement a few qt overlays
like i say iam glad its got better for you guys

Although Demand Paging in the N95 V20 FW was a major move forwards for Nokia, and allowed true multi-tasking on the device, the N95 was perfectly useable prior to V20 FW as long as you didn't try to run several large apps at the same time. The N95 was so popular already, it didn't need "saved" as such.
