Memorystick Duo in Sony cameras

ok - so i got myself a Sony DSC-F717 - cool machine.
took a memorystick duo and plugged it into the adapter - inserted it into the camera.
took a few pictures - moved the duo back to the P800.
wanted to send the pictures ....  :agrue: :agrue:
the p800 could not find them - not even with the file manager.
is there a file manager out there that can see outside of the P800 root on the memorystick ???

The pictures are in a different folder. When you take pics from a digicam they usually put it in folders like "DCF" or somethings like that/ You have to move these pics to your IMAGE folder to see it. NOw your pics would probably be un Jpeg format, im not sure if the P800 can open them directly, havent tried that myself yet. But I think with image editor you can convert ordinary pics from PC and you have an option to store them on the your phone as Jpeg, same as the T68i so I guess the P800 will be able to read these pics as long as they are in the right folder.

But the jpg's have to be in the image/ "subfolder" on either the internal memory or the memory stick for the P800 to see it.

Just move the pictures using file manager like qfileman to move to the desired memory

qfileman cant see the pictures because they are not in the root directory of the memorystick. that is the problem.

hmmm.. why dont you try using the pc first and check what folder the Digicam placed the pics.. Im sure its just somwhere there you just dont know which folder...

Not currently possible. The P800 and cameras write to different root directories, and so you cannot see files created by one on the other, without putting the duo in a USB reader on your PC, and then moving the files there, before putting it back into the other device. Other people have had this problem, and not found any way round it.

I see your point. Unless someone will make a qfilemanager that can read different roots then we are stick with the whole PC process.

Surely the "File Manager" application on My-symbian.com would allow you to do that (look under Miscellaneous utilities) since it gives you full access to the phone's file system...
..since it gives you full access to the phone's file system...
exactly... and the camera stores them on its own filesystem, mounted at a different entry point to the p800.

Hence it's (for now) impossible.

Shame really as I have seen a Sony camera I fancy, but until the file systems are compatible I ain't gonna shell out for it.

Stupid to have a proprietry disc then use different file systems... wake up Sony...

I agree with you andy on the fact that sony should have made them compatible, but I dont think you should let this hinder you from buying a digi cam since the digi cam also serves its prupose. Unless you are only planning to take pics so you can load them on your P800. I myself have the Cannon S30 and when I take pictures, I make them int VCDs using Ulead Photo Suite, its great! I dont have to print them anymore, I can make simple presentations with voice or text descriptions and musical backgrounds all arranged in and orderely menu. 😊 If you into pics, get a digi cam, you can also take short avi's and convert them using PV author and send them as MMS 😊
