P800 - can't get MMS to work on Orange

5 replies · 6,621 views · Started 18 March 2003

I have bought a sim-free P800.

I can connect OK to browse the net and WAP using the Orange GPRS Net account. But I have two problems.

I cannot get MMS to work. I have used the configurator on the Sony-Ericsson site. Orange have sent me the Auto setup. I have copied all the sttings from a P800 for Orange MMS internet and WAP Accounts and MMS settings in my local Orange shop and I have been onto the Orange Data support and copied all the settings down there. No joy. Any ideas?

Also I am able to get e-mails from my BT Openworld e-mail address using the Orange internet connection, but for some reason I can't send them. I have checked all the settings against my Outlook account and called BT Tech support for ADSL but no joy. Any ideas?

Thanks 😊

Daniel

If you're connecting via Orange's GPRS service, you'll have to use their SMTP server (orange.smtp.net) and not BTO's.

Hey Daniel,

MMS's are 40p a go for orange. You are LOADS better off subscribing to a pop3 / smtp service and sending all your pics etc etc as an email (i.e. between 4 and 50k) rather than clicking goodbye to 40p / picture. If you don't know of any free pop3 / imap /smtp services, use www.myrealbox.com - although they state it's free and "in permanent beta" they've never let me down yet. And THEN for another tip, register with orange for email alerting via text message and forward your myrealbox account -> orange email account. You get a (free) SMS with the sender / heading details when someone emails you - then you can decide whether to GPRS to pick up the mail or just use the web mail client later.

But I couldn't get it to work with IMAP though 😞

Your bills will be LOADS less !

I had the same problem. Sim free phone and trying to use it on orange. gprs worked fine but MMS didnt.

Turned out Orange charges extra for MMS, and you have to ask them to provision it on your line. Its a separate provision to gprs access. This is so they can bill you, for each message. Whereas for GPRS they bill you per megabyte, in lumps.

After asking them to provision you for mms, be careful that they dont accidentally remove your gprs provisioning. Although they deny it was possible, they did this to me, and it took tens of extra phonecalls to them to sort it out. Eventually, they agreed with me that by provisioning me for mms, they accidentally lost my gprs provisioning. but theyre both working now.

Try this.

Go to control panel -> WAP accounts -> Select orange MMS (Which you should have set up - if not - thats the problem!)

The use proxy should be ticked with the address:
192.168.224.010

The last two digits are NOT displayed as the text box will only display 12 digits. So many people when trying to copy the address from another phone ommit the final two digits.

If this fails call Orange tech on: 156 - they have never failed me.

Let me know how it goes and what the probem was.

If you want to send MMS via the Orange service, you also need to ensure you are using the orangemms APN.
