You can have all known hardware problems fixed free under warranty, and with V21 FW, there's few if any serious issues. So what more is required?

What do you think Nokia will offer to 'make it up to users'? I don't think N97 owners will be offered anything more from Nokia, and I don't really see why they should do so
- especially considering how much some of you have rubbished the Nokia brand-name so considtently in these forums.

I think it's time you all got over it, or sell your N97s and leave Nokia behind. Put up or shut up!

It's not just the hardware faults, but also the short-sighted design aspects such as low RAM.

We've been here with this debate before though James, how much RAM is enough RAM ? What exactly is is that you're looking for ?

Open apps on my phone as i type are
Homescreen
Menu
Sky mobile (i'm watching the news)
Camera (i thought i'd take a pic too)
Messaging (daughter as usual)
Snaptu (must look at my facebook and twitter whilst i'm at it)
Web (got the orange world page open)
Log
Clock
Mykeylock
Contacts

all running smoothly and fast with 22mb RAM still available.

I might make a call now without closing anything down, and i know my phone would cope with it. I never have this many apps open on my laptop, so Gosh !!

My point is ....... what else do you want the phone to do ???

What is it that you think you're missing ??

What is it that you think android or iphone can do better ?

I'm by no means being scathing here James, i'm really curious and these are serious questions 😊

BTW i wouldn't want anyone to think that i only use my N97 as a leisure tool, i'm a musician/teacher, don't have a computer with me at work so not only do i use the coming next calender for lesson schedules and appointments, i extensively use it for e mailing while i'm away from home, making lesson plans and reminders/notes for myself whilst i'm at work, so it is a much used work tool for me too.

I just about use the phones every aspect, it's also my mp3 player (my ipod is in a drawer, long forgotten)

for me i would like it to play music and have turn by turn navigation at the same time.

N95 could - with no problems, N97 can't. For me its one or the other.

Did N95 have a graphics chip? i know the n97 does not so this may be why. Too much resources being used to create the map display i guess - would more ram help this? maybe.

Having said that after having phone replaced (GPS and Lens) i am 90% happy especially with V21 Firmware - should have been sold from day one with that!

overall i am happy - i love the form factor over other touch phones

my n97 mini plays music and can use GPS directions at the same time. the music stops, voice guidance talks, then the music resumes. works just fine😊.

Interesting thread - sorry I've not had time to chime in before.

With regards to the Nokia should be doing more - what about compenstation?

Be realistic. As someone else has poited out you can get hardware fixed under warranty if its effecting, you can get the software upgrade. This goes further that is typical in my opinion. For example look at Samsung i8910 firmware situation as a comparison.

I think the with N97, as it comes out of the box today, you end up with a handset that has capabilities that are difficult to match with anything else on the market. Are there are other products better in some area - yes of course... But in general or most people buying this they are going to get what they see as very powerful...

Of course in an ideal world it would not have happened, but I think its good Nokia have been frank about this. Can you imagine another company doing this?

Roger

Mine will play music and navigate

But

one or both of the following will happen

- the music plays slightly slow enough that it is really frustrating like a record on the wrong speed!

- the maps and voice commands lag or freeze constantly
