Tried to get on with the N97 for 8 months and failed. Awful awful OS, terrible touch screen, slow operation. Worst phone I have ever bought.
Got my lovely new N900 in front of me... and my girlfriend can have the N97.

you clearly don't think much of your girlfriend then. 😃
dog-man
Stayed with Nokia then! 😮 😉
How does the new one compare?
Loving it so far (and I could never go to Apple) - like a real computer and with an OS that's actually designed around being touch-screen.

really? ive heard quite a few bad things about the N900 like it being quite slow and you almost having to hit the screen with a brick to get it to respond
I would have tried the n900 over the n97 mini except for the fact that the n900 is huge (compared to the mini. size is almost the #1 critera for me)
( http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/26712-Apple-iPhone-vs-N900-vs-N97-mini-vs-k750i ) and for me the n900 is only edge on ATT is the US. I may have been able to live with one negative but not 2.
I agree with the OP i could never go the apple.

Any idea what UK operators are selling the N900? I'm interested to check it out. Also does anyone know of any ways/aspects the N97 is better than N900?

On my two N800's (touchscreen only), the screen calibrate routine seemed not just positional but force-calibration as well.
If you used the lightest of touch with the stylus to tap the target centers the screen seemed over-sensitive. If you used a more moderate touch, it seemed to require more force.
I expect the N900 to behave somewhat similar.

the n900 is great for its web browser. but the n97 is infinitely better as a phone and communication device. the n900 phone functions are rather weak...

I think Vodafone is the only UK carrier suppling it right now, and for not-too-bad pricing too.
