is there another S60 touchscreen upgrade in the pipeline?

I was reading the AAS 3 way comparison of the samsung, google and n97 symbian s60 v 5 devices and noticed in the comments that someone had said thta there was due an S60 update later in the year - anyone have any ideas what he may have referred to and any guesses if it will filter our way?

I dont suspect there is much basis for this comment but it should make a nice talking point!

I haven't heard anything about an S60 update - Symbian ^3 should start appearing on new devices towards the end of this year so maybe there was confusion with that? I honestly can't see us receiving any real major updates to the n97 now v21 seems reasonably stable, I think it'll just be little performance tweaks and bug fixes from now on, for a start there's not really the spec there in the phone to handle any exciting major new features.

i think your right regarding the n97 not going forward what with the c: drive capacity and ram limitations - unless of course they allow Nokia apps to be saved to the mass memory not the c: drive

i do think aspects of the s60 v 5 code could probably be revised and optimised but thatwould only allow the phone to do the things it does now only quicker and smoother.

I would hope the one thing to come out of the n97 is that Nokia slightly overspecs it's phones in the future to cope with increasing demands over the phones life cycle. The n97 was overtaken by os demands before it even made it out of the box. The mini is equipped to last longer and probably performs better against the competition than the n97 and probably has a better chance of surviving the 3 or 4 year handset life cycle.
