Can I use the GPS facility on this phone with the slide shut, I've tried turning the keypad lock off but the GPS still seems to die with the slide shut.

I don't use Nokia Maps, but for example Garmin is fully functional while slider shut.

I use Viewranger and McGuider and both lose the GPS when the slider is shut?
When I say it dies it doesn't always completely but if you have a satellite log on screen when the slide is shut you can see that there is a noticeable decrease in signal and sometimes none - meaning that it is unusable with the slide shut.

Mine works most of the time with slider shut, although it is more precise with the slider open. I have a nice Brodit Proclip holder in my car and I use this Garmin+N95 8GB as my satnav, and I really like it in a landscape mode, with the slider shut. When it comes to looks, I prefer slider shut, but when I'm in a very busy traffic, some big city or something, I always use it with the slider open.
