Hi All, quick post incase anyone else needs it.
I've got Truphone working on my N97, without the installer - but I did need a spare N95!
Assuming you all know about the SIP settings update & latest firmware etc.
(
*Edit, link to "SIP VoIP 3.1 Settings for Symbian OS, S60 5.x" from nokia
)
First, get Truphone installed and working on N95 ... Then, on the N95, go here, and write all these details down ....
Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> SIP Settings -> Truphone
These are mine:
Profile name : Truphone
Service profile : IETF
Default access point : <my access point name>
Public user name : sip:<your truphone number goes here>@truphone.com
use compression : no
Registration : always on
use security : no
proxy server :
Proxy server address : sip:truphone.com
realm : truphone.com
username: <copy from n95>
password: ****
allow loose routing : yes
transport type : udp
port : 5062
registrar server :
Registrar server address : sip:truphone.com
realm : truphone.com
username: <copy from n95>
password: ****
transport type : udp
port : 5062
To get the password. I used this method :
http://www.fring.com/forums//forum/thread/1382/&page=2
<snip>
3. go to Tools>Utilities>Memory and make backup of your memory to sd-card
4. put sd-card to the PC reader and copy Backup/Backup.arc to your PC
5. put parse_backup to the same folder together with Backup.arc
6. start parse_backup.exe and make you coffee
7. drink your coffee slowly as the process takes about an hour
8. when parsing is done, use your favorite file manager to find the file that contains the string "my_super_password". Open this file and find the string "my_super_password". In this file you will find all the sip settings from your cell phone. Look at how your own sip profile is stored and then read the settings for truphone in the same file. Done.

This did take "about an hour" on my i7.
To get Backup.arc, I used Y-Browser
"Favorite file manager" i used
http://www.mariussoft.com/Products.aspx
For my search string I used my user name :
username: <copy from n95>
It returned two files, file "block-350" contained the information I needed.
Opened in Notepad, best guessed the password based on the next piece of text after my "user name".
It was 10 charcters long, looks like a randomly generated sequence of digits.
Retyped all these things into my N97 using most of the instructions from here :
http://www.winkstreaming.com/en/n97_sip/
Works a treat.
Any questions, I'd be happy to help.
Happy native Truphone'ing y'all.

In order to make TruPhone work over 3G .... copied from "http://www.winkstreaming.com/en/n97_sip/"
"Connectivity / Admin Settings / Net Settings / Advanced VoIP settings / Voip Services / <your profile> / Profile settings
To enable SIP Calls over 3G set both 'AWCDMA' and 'UAWMAC' to ON. Note that you will be charged for data when using 3G - and your phone should warn you when doing so."
I've been making free international calls to a mobile in spain using truphone voip. Call quality was better than BT landline to Telefonica landline.
