Ovi Maps 3.3, with free navigation, is now available for the Nokia N86. The new version is available via the SW Update application (listed as Ovi Maps with free navigation) and is 8240 kb in size. As we have suggested before it seems likely that Nokia will make Ovi Maps 3.3 available across S60 3.2 devices either via direct download or via firmware updates. Read on for a few screenshots and compass tip.

Works like a charm. Eerr... GPS.
Same here, uninstalled e72 version and only get 3.1?
You may need to upgrade the N86's firmware (see if there is a Phone Update in SW update).... other than that you may have to wait 24 hours until the next automatic check for software updates. I suspect installing Maps 3.1 would also trigger it - but not sure.
Here is a tip for those that only see Maps 3.1 as an upgrade. Like Rafe said above, you may need to wait until the Software Update software refreshes itself.
The way around that is to change your date 3 days ahead. I changed my date from March 17 to March 20. Went back into the update app and voila, it refreshed and I now see the new maps app.
Just remember to set your time/date back to auto so that your date is corrected.
Just for the record, this version is 3.03(316). The E72 version was 3.03(246), so it is newer.
Cheers from Canada.
*waits for all the N86 users berating Nokia in previous threads for not releasing it to come back with a thanks*
I somehow think I'll be waiting a while 😉
Good work nonetheless Nokia
It just appears on my software update and I installed it without uninstalling the previous version (3.3 from the E72). Still work like a charm. And I still have my 40-35 MB on C: disk 😊
Thank you Nokia, just add the contact bar in the next update and it will be perfect.
I already had the E72 version installed, but thanks anyway Nokia! It just didn't make sense not to offer this on the N86.
Just downloaded the update. Works fine. Nice step by nokia. Thanks nokia for officially making it available for n86.
When it support 5630 XpressMusic?!

Seems unlikely, 5630 doesn't have on-board GPS, so it'd probably be a lower priority than the N95 and N85 - I get a feeling that these may have a long wait.
probably just coincidence but for the last few weeks my N86 has not been able to get a GPS lock using the E72 version yet suddenly today when the N86 version is officially released my GPS lock is instant
i wonder if they were preventing the unsupported handsets from getting a-gps info from the new version?
either way i still don't see the update for my N86 and i still can't get the firmware update to happen so if it depends on that i'm SOL
whatever... my htc desire should be arriving in a week or two
@rafiii: How the h-ll is that? The only applications installed on my N86 C: is these: Spotify, Road Sync, Quickoffice, Quickaccess, N-Gage and Adobe Reader. (On E: though, I have at least twenty other must-have-apps.) And I only have 14.8 MB left on C: to play with! The Memory Information states that 42 of the used 63 MB on C: are ‘Other Files’. How to get rid of those – with my Y-Browser – and without a hard reset or adventuring the phones stability? (Which Ive fought so hard and long for! One bastard was the Ovi app Safe Store. Beware!)
On my c: disk I have Ovi store, Ovi maps, facebook widget, metro widget, France 24, cclock, Energy profiler, just light (the theme), and 1 MB of customisation (wallpaper and ringtones). I haven't installed N-gage, quickoffice 6 (still using the default version), Spotify and Roadsync.
Somebody has tried the pedestrian with compass?
The article states that version 3.03 is available for all S60 5th edition devices, but unfortunately it is still not available for the 5530 XpressMusic (maybe because it doesn't have builtin GPS?)
Great! Just a couple of days *after* I lost my patience and decided to pay for it...
Congratulations though, to all the rest of you! 😊
pls help! using n86 software update download complete but installation failed. tried many times still the same. Any suggestions? my current firmware version is 21.006 n ovi maps v3.01. many thanks..
Well, there's a surprise, Software Update doesn't show anything other than Maps 3.1 for my unlocked, SIM-free, fully paid up N86 bought from the Nokia flagship store in London...
Then again, I'm still waiting for firmware 21 to show up on my phone too so I don't know why I'm surprised!
Nokia, any chance of updating all your phones not just a few randomly-chosen product codes!?
I'm having the same problems as TheProdigalFool above. So much for buying direct from Nokia. I feel as though my 400 odd pounds could have been spent better, the software on this phone has been TERRIBLE since I first got it. If it's not the software acting up, it's hardware and build problems (I write this from a N85 with dust under the camera lens that ruins photos, a non functioning navi wheel and a crack next to the menu buttons that causes the entire front plate to lift up). And this is from someone who takes care of his phones!! Company loyalty = fast fading.
You can always change your phone's product code to a generic one. Just search the website how.
I bought mine in the nokia store and it turned out to have a specfic UK code. I changed it to a euro one and now when there is an update I get it 1st rather than wait a few months.
Thanks for the tip davesmith. Shame we have to go to such measures.
Yeah, annoys me when I buy direct from nokia and get updates after the custom firmwares;
How can I tell what my firmware version is (i.e. I dont mean version number, but what that version number corresponds to);
Also, I am planning on a trip this weekend, if I put the e71 version on and take it off again will that cause much hassle?
