The evolution of the smartphone: Who moved the goalposts?

There are any number of better input methods being developed and played with in research and academic projects. The problem with them is that they all require some skill to use, users would have to put some time into building up proficiency rather than being able to use it straight out of the box.

Imagine any of the musical instruments that we admire being played for us by skilled musicians? None of them could be invented today, because our modern spoon-fed easy dumbed down lazy culture demands immediate satisfaction. The basic piece of humanity that is the ability to develop and fine tune skills, both manual and mental, is rapidly disappearing in some horric evolution-in-reverse nightmare.

Imagine if the human interface people at Apple reworked the guitar. How sterile would the music that this nightmare instrument produced be? Hardly bears thinking about.
