Chrome Surround

Just noticed it yesterday, the chrome surround is now starting peel off. THe bit that goes around the lower part of the phone, i.e. around the keybaord part. Right where the screen lock button is, the chrome covering is peeeling away now, so had a close look at the other bits of the phone, and the camera button is also showing signs of wearing away, as is the volume rocker switch.

Bit disappointed I have to say, I always look after my phones diligently, my N95 now looks work, but that is three years old! THe N97 looks perhaps more aged than what it should, owned it since last June - nine months?

Anyone else?

Hmmm....

Yes Notty ... mine too, in exactly the same place you described.

I've been told it's down to skin acidity ? However this is the first handset that i've used that this has happened to. Also, i keep my phone in a "book" type leather case, the case doesn't rub where the phone case holds the phone either so it's not the case that's to blame, and how i hold the phone in it's case means that my skin doesn't touch the part that's peeling.

it looks manky i have to say, i was able to change the covers on my old N95 very easily but i doubt it's that easy on this one, i would very much like to replace the trim though.

xx

my n97 is chromeless. i hold my phone in my hands most of the time, nver in my pocket. is there anything that can be done?

Angie - who told you it was down to skin acidity? I ask as I find this a bit odd. I always have the phone in my pocket, and never ever have anything else in that pocket. Recently, I've bought a very nice Krussel leather pouch for it, so the amount of time it's actually in my hand, is quite minimal ( seeing as no-one rings me or texts me, yeah, I know - Billy No Mates...)

Anyway, rather than go about the skin acidity eroding away the chrome, I'm disappointed. THe Nokia 6680 I have which is at least four years old, still has a perfect chrome surround, but I think that WAS metal, and not a plastic covering.

Eee- they don't mek phones like they used to......

HTC next time? Was playing around with HTC Touch Pro 2. Nice slide and tilt screen AND multiple home screens.....Felt solid too, though a little thick. Only let down was that it runs on Windoze.

guys, pop over to your friendly NCC and get them to fix it, i had mine done recently

Taking stuff back to local 'friendly' NCC place here in Saudi is a different experience, usually it's the ' oh you've had it more than two days, we can't do anything' reply.:frown:

But -we're going back to Blighty on Thursday for two weeks, so might even try a NCC in the UK and see if they can do anything about it.

do we need a recceipt or warranty card? i've bought min off ebay and i have no receipt and no warranty card 😞

I had mine replaced about three months after buying the phone. Now another three months later its being to peel again but not as bad. More around the lock/unlock button area. Don't know if I can get it replaced again. They could argue that it due to usage.

Had the same sorta problem here. Bought the official nokia pocket case CP-302 or something and its rubbed almost all the paint from the camera and volume buttons. Really poo!
