Learning IR remote...

I wonder if this would be possible?:::

Aim the IR from a normal remote at the IR on your phone, press a function on the remote. Have the phone recognize it has recieved a signal, memorize the signal and let you give the signal a name (eg volume up or whatever)

So then you could program the phone to be whatever remote you wanted. This would mean that there wouldn't need to be 100++ different remote profiles stored in the app, as you would only need to program in the ones you use.

I'd really like to be able to use the phone to control functions on my car stereo (panasonic). Doesn't work at the moment tho!

This has already been placed in the "not do-able" category, mainly due to phone limitations. It has a very very limited amount of memory to do these things. In fact PSiloc have stated the same in their responses. for the phone to be able to learn from a IR pulse would be v pushing the boundaries!! but hey that got us here now!!

I think that will be the next step for Psiloc, maybe because so many TV/VCR/DVD dont work with the software, that is there only option to make everyone happy, and hopefully fully compatible

This app is perfectly possible.I dont think the memory limitations has anything to do with it.The current psiloc remote has hundreds of ir frequencys programmed into it so if the programme had no pre programmed channels it would be considerably smaller (get rid of that shady interface in v0.3 as well.Lol). Note😛lease do not request me for the "IR LEARNING REMOTE" I do NOT have it. 😉

good idea! but can i suggest that the use of keypads on alternative entering or inputing numbers? cause it is hard to use the joystick when ever inputing numbers, and by the use of * and # to switch off and tv/video respectively... just a suggestion

i remeber yeeeeeeeeeeeears ago there was a wristwatch that could change tv's video's etc.

now yeeeeeeears later we can't even do it on our 7650's boo hoo 😞

Having a TV remote for a 7650 was ruled as not do-able only a few months ago due to weak ir signal, now it is possible and working well. I wouldnt rule anything out.

Taken from Nokia Forum: FYI:

Here's a copy of an email from Psiloc:

Dear Sir,

Sorry, but "learning" is impossible due to hardware limitations.
Instead we are working on importing well known data files (like
Pronto).

IR range is depended on brand and model, we were tested N7650 with some
Sony and Philips models with range 6 m and sometimes 7 m! But for
Panasonic (for example) max range is 3 m.

Do you have some other codes to irremote? For example i have TV by Finlux. But I dont know, what can i use in parameters? Thanx
