All your rss feeds in one widget

Before I got my N97 I used google reader for my rss subscriptions. Once I'd transfered those feeds onto my N97 I stopped using google reader.

More than a few times I've wished that I could add all the feeds as a single homescreen widget. Today I realised that I could!

I copied the feeds on my N97 to google reader, created a shared bundle, previewed the bundle in my N97's browser and then subscribed to the atom feed offered.

I've now set that single N97 feed to refresh every hour and added it as a widget to my homescreen.

These are the problems that I encoutered along the way:

Couldn't find the 'create bundle' option in google reader
solution: Here's the link - http://www.google.com/reader/view/#bundle-creator-page
(Oh, I've found it now, it's in the 'Browse for stuff' section)

The atom feed did not work, received error "Invalid address"
solution: Fixed the feed's URL changing %2F to / etc. I tried to replicate this error so that my description here could be accurate but each time I add the bundle feed now it works ok.

No atom feed available when viewing bundle on N97's browser
solution: From google reader send the shared bundle to your own email address. In the email there's a link saying "Preview this bundle". Open this link on your N97 browser and the atom feed will be seen.

Hope somebody finds this useful.

Cheers!

i think you can use yahoo pipes also to do this

alternatively, gravity (awesome stuff, btw) has a greader client built in too

Hi jerm,

Thanks for the Yahoo Pipes suggestion, I'm now using Pipes instead of the google all-in-one feed due to the google solution popping up ad-clicks on every other rss item.

The Yahoo Pipes solution looked a bit daunting at first, but once I'd got one feed working the rest was simple.

Does anybody have a solution to rss feeds' Automatic Updates being switched off after a power off->on cycle? Not that I switch off my phone regularly but once a fortnight there'll be a reason for a battery removal and I have to set up the Automatic Update frequency again.

Cheers!

welcome on the yahoo pipes thingy 😊

as for the rss updates, i think that's a bug that's not been addressed yet.......
