The Nokia N86 8MP gets v30 firmware update

I have pointed this issue in NOV 2009 (v20):

Can anyone please explain me this: I go inside contacts, then exit (no more orb on Contacts), it shows no applications activity (second slide), however JbakTaskman shows it's still resident (2 files!) so I need to manually close apps. Same goes for call Log entry.

Is this related to Symbian OS, as I don't see any other reason why this issue hasn't been addressed? And YES it's very easy to reproduce! Just open and then close Contacts, as easy as that.

Miki

Just check your free RAM before and after camera app open/close!

"Already in use" error is still there.

When I try to delete captured image as soon as side bar pop up I get this (not always but very often):

everything works as it used to or even better now. just one glitch so far: it seems impossible to uninstall the ovi store client, mind me only the client, which keeps occupying about 2 megs of hard disk space and if you try to uninstall it more than once it will chew up another 2 megs: 4 in total. it's incredible how it re-installs itself back onto the phone without prompting anything....regards.

There is increase in ram by 2-3mb upon closing camera application. so is true for reverse of it.

I have also experienced this "already in use error". Occurs sometimes.

new updates just sucks...my phone was faster before..n nw its hangs everytym...wen i watch some videos on realplayer...it got stick n hang...wats happening...its opposite of wat all u tokin abt...my phone was better b4...now its nt😞

Still exists with v30 the standbytime is much shorter as in v20

Old Firmware v20: 10-12days
V21 8day
V30 max 8days

"After upgrading to V21 (4 weeks ago) definitively the standby time is in the range from 60 to 80hours shorter. I use my N86 as second mobile phone (98% standby). I log every runtime of the phone in a excel-Plot. With V20 the standby time >290h .
With V21 allways <220h.
"

Hmm. I don't use emails, GMS only, BT always ON, and with v30 it lasts about 5 days! Quite a leap with new FW.

note that this is with regular use. If I use camera heavily (300+ shots), like while I was in Prague, then it lasts about 6-8 hours 😮

What I have also noticed with v30, is that in "power saving mode" (one bar left) battery holds quite long. I get 7-8 battery low warnings before it dies. :icon14:

With the announcement of Nokia's new 12mp camera touchscreen phone the N8, i hope Nokia don't completely forget about their flagship 8mp camera phone the N86!!! Please don't forget us N86 users and give us new FW too later in the year!!! 😊

I'm in the same boat. Bought my N86 full price, unlocked at Nokia UK flagship store and it's still telling me that v20 is "up-to-date".

It drives me crazy how useless Nokia is about updates. It's like they 'forgot' a whole range of product codes. I totally understand a week or say delay while they role it out from region to region. But this is like a year!! I also understand that carrier-locked phones with custom firmware may take longer to get updates - if at all. But that's why I pay full price for unlocked phone: to ensure that I have the latest firmware. With Nokia it seems there are no such guarantees...

I honestly think it's just negligence and they've somehow forgotten.

Me too.

Bought N86 in Nokia's Regent Street store - full price 399 - but no updates.

How to annoy the customers that paid full price!

North American version has the same problem. What about product code 0590552? Is it ever going to receive the update to V30? Is there someone at Nokia still reading these posts?

Both the UK and NAM variants I have been told will be coming, hopefully soon.

Did I read right that somebody took their N86 into a Nokia Care centre and they say this latest version 30 firmware is still not stable?

I have to say, I think that is simply not good enough. How long has this phone been out for now? A year isn't it? So this phone has been on the market for a whole twelve months and yet still Nokia cannot make them work properly!

I'm on my third one of these now, the last one went back because the camera could not take a clear photo. This one I have now was just as bad when I got it so I took it into Nokia care and they did manage to get it working. But now six months later and the camera is playing up again with dark condition photos being very out of focus and fuzzy!

That's not the only problem i've had with this phone, in it's early days it was next to useless! To be fair version 20 firmware did fix a few things, but in my opinion this does not save Nokias bacon! Why? Because when you buy a new phone you should not have to wait twelve months for everything to work, it should work straight away and there is not excuse for it not working straight away because Nokia should have tested it thoroughly first. The fact they didn't tells me they don't really care that much about the customer and so this N86 which is the fifth Nokia phone i've owned, will be the last.

Very strange. Maybe I've been lucky, but my N86 has been rock solid, v30 firmware is a dream and photos come out beautifully, lack-of-Xenon notwithstanding....

Can anyone tell me what's happening with the N86?

Is it going to be dumped in favour of the N8? Are there any upcoming FW updates on the horizon this year? Is it going to receive a new FW update beyond v30?

Worryingly i'm hearing a lot of rumours that it's going to be discontinued! Is this true?

Steve/Rafe - do you have any news on this?

Damian Dinning - i know you're busy working on the N8 my friend but could you let us know where we N86 users stand at the moment?

As a proud N86 user i would be gutted to hear if this is the end of the road for the N86 8MP.

I still get no update, but I bought full price in London Regent Street.

Also, even when I try and buy maps online it says service "not available in your country"

Did the previous poster get his problem solved by something like I had to do with my old N95?

Thanks

So choked that my N86 is going to remain slow and not have nice things because I am stuck with the 2.0115 version. Grr. Is there a way for me to get the new 3.0? I have noticed it getting slower and ovi maps is always trying to charge me.

N86 has been improved performance wise with v30, quicker, no lagging, and more RAM and Phone Memory optimization..

Anyone encounter problem with their N86 heated after using camera?

This problem has become more frequent after I upgraded to v30. How to solve this? Normally I just restart the mobile phone.

Thanks for helping... :frown:
