5800 controlling cellular Data use only

I am on an AT&T pay as you go plan. I want save money and not purchase a monthly data pack. I want to only pay for data usage when I really need it.

Is there some way to ensure that the phone will not use the cellular data network, except when I explicitly choose it?

Two things I see, the one is every time I fire up the GPS it uses $0.04 - $0.11, not breaking the bank, but annoying. When I first used the GPS and left it running overnight, the phone burned through $25.00.

The other is the email app. I like having the email, but I would like it to only check email when I am using wifi.

I changed the order of preference, but even at home, I sometimes slip off of my wifi network and it then defaults to AT&T and costs me money.
Thanks.

On the 6590, in addition to using the 2,4,6, and 8 buttons to navigate through symbols, 5 can be used to choose the selection.
