The touch screen budget smartphone that is the Nokia 5230 has had a major bump in firmware, from v12 to v20. Adding in new applications, updating others, and bringing kinetic scrolling to the main menu, it shows that while the price of the unit is low, it’s getting the same support as more popular and expensive Nokia smartphones.

Top news.

My unlocked 5230 from Carphone Warehouse, would never see the v12 firmware update, being firmly stuck on v11.

It has now seen the v20 upgrade over the air (on the three network in the UK) and has upgraded sucessfully. Internet browser now goes full screen after a few seconds, just like the N97 - there goes one minor irritation.
Thank you Nokia....😊

Ewan, From the snapshot pasted here, it seems even you didnt have v12. You seem to be jumping from v11 to v20 as well.

Was there a v12 in existence?

Well, the update bricked my phone. I did it via Ovi Suite. Maybe the problem was that Ovi Suite itself wanted to update as well. I did that first, didn't restart the program after the update, and then tried the firmware update. Ovi Suite stopped working, phone became a brick.

I took it to the shop and should get it back tomorrow, already with the latest firmware installed. So, no real harm done...

Mine would never see the update to v12 either, but its doing the v20 update right now, fingers crossed ....

ps. Gears? That looks nice, and is a little clever, but oh boy, does it get boring quickly!

I have V12 but when i try to update it via phone directly it says that server certification is untrusted.

Cud anybody help on this?
