Hi!

I got this problem.
When i connect my N86 with the tv its show the menu and so on fine. But when I open my picktures they gets indecipherable both on the tv or on the phone. Then i disconnect the phone and the pictures on the phone gets clear again.

I had tryed 2 different N86 and 2 different cables.

Whats wrong

Yes, picture viewing is a BIG problem with the N86! Especially with the TV-OUT cable. The pictures do EVENTUALLY resolve clearly, but it takes a very long time to do it. If you're patient it works, but it's totally unsuitable for trying to view a quick slideshow of the day's photos in front of the family. This just didn't happen with the N95, maybe it's because the N86 doesn't have certain graphics acceleration bits???

Your post prompted me to try it out with my N86. Initially I ran into the same problem as you, everything looked fine until I went into the gallery. Pictures are stuck at their "preview resolution" and you can't view them clearly.

After fiddling with it for awhile, I find that if you start the gallery application first and then plug in the TV out cable, then the pictures clear up a lot quicker.

I also did some research online, and it seems the N86 outputs at VGA (640x480) when it's in the gallery mode, while the rest of the phone outputs at QVGA (320x240).

I found that it also outputs at VGA resolution when you're playing back videos. I encoded two versions of the same video, one at VGA resolution and the other at QVGA resolution, and found that the VGA one is noticeably sharper on my TV.

Anyways, just wanted to share some info I found. Hope it works for you too!
