N97/N900 battery

As the 2 batteries have a different capacity (mAh) they will also probably be slightly different size and may not physically fit in the other handset.
Nokia's view would also probably be that to use any other bettery than the one designed for the handset would void the warranty.

They look fairly similar but it's hard to tell without physically handling them. Besides the capacity, would the output be the same - is that standard?

I think the output voltage would be the same, and I don't believe a genuine Nokia battery would damage another model requiring the same voltage.

The difference in mAh between the 2 batteries is quite small, so then difference in size may also be small.
However the size/shape difference may be enough that the battery doesn't physically fit into the other handset, or that the battery cover may not lock in place.

There's no real harm in trying, except that you could end up owning a spare battery thjat you can't use.
