In case of PersonalJava on P800 the installable 'ImageFix' enhancement is available for download now:
http://www.ericsson.com/mobilityworld/sub/open/technologies/java/tools/image_fix
It makes the best out of the P800 4096 color screen for images loaded and drawn by AWT based PersonalJava applications. This is good news for developers of map and photo oriented applications where image quality/detail resolution matters and for which C++ has until now been the only option for obtaining the best picture quality. This 'patch' has effect on all units with Organiser versions beginning with the letters "R1" or older.
This has effect only for the rendering of images in PersonalJava applications and does not affect any other imaging software on the device.
No modification is required to existing or new PersonalJava applications, this updates the PersonalJava runtime system on the phone.
Wow. Will this also improve the pictures taken from the P800 Camera?
I think this is a very significant upgrade yet I dont see people too excited about it? Is this some week old news that I just missed?
My organizer version is CXC162001 R1G05 so I guess this applies to me, can I download an update to make my organizer the latest version.

Not unless you have to means to flash new firmware to the phone?
Take it to a Ericsson service centre 😉
so you're saying the organizer software is installed or part of the firmware and not in the internal memory?
It will be stored on your phones internal memory, but on the ROM drive and you can't write to that.

My version is R1f01 so definitely this will be of use to me..
The only version thats R2 on mine is Bluetooth.
I can't apply this upgrade to my phone. My phone was recently upgraded to the latest version R1G05. When I try to apply the upgrade (either by double-clicking the SIS file in Windows or by copying it to the P800 and trying to install from there) I get a message that the component failed a security check. The message is "certificate had expired at the time it was used". Although the expiry date appears to be 6/10/2013.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Malcolm

Hello, go to "Control panel->Certificate manager->Certificate Authority"
See if there is a certificate "Sony Ericsson" in the list. If so, select "Certificate details" and see if it says "Fingerprint: 87:47:F8:F5😃D:EA:04:1C:F4:54:E0:1F:7C:B9:F2:79:5C:B6:83:EE".
If so you have the correct certificate for installing Sony Ericsson signed SIS files. Every shipped P800 is supposed to contain that certificate.
Ahh. I do have a Sony Ericsson certificate but it is different to the one that you showed and it expired on 28/10/2002. Can I get a new certificate? Is this held as some kind of file on the c: drive? If so, what's the filename and location? If possible, could you post it here as an attachment?
Many thanks for helping me.

Whats are our software versions on your phone? Maybe you have the latest upgrade already and dont need this anymore.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a list of available firmware updates on the SE website - for each update a "what's new" list to see what has changed from version n to n+1...
This is a normal standard for every software company - but seems to be too complicated for the outstanding customer support of SE...

Maybe you made a backup of the entire C: drive before you let them upgrade it ? Then possibly you made a restore of the C: drive and the content became overwritten with the old pre-commercial content including that certificate ?
I suggest re-applying the upgrade is a good idea.

What other phone vendors do you see offer this service ?

Is this an argument for SE to keep this stupid behavior? Can you tell me a single PDA vendor who doesn't offer this service?

Gunnar,
First off, I think I speak for all of us here when saying that we're not critisizing you at all.
We do however have opinions about how SonyEricsson could improve itself and as this is essentially a "fan forum" this is the perfect place to air such opinions.
That said I believe that SonyEricsson is probably the cell phone producing company that listens the most to its users and the community.
The fact you're graciously honoring us direct support in this forum and the fact that SE has linked to sites such as My-Symbian directly from the product homepage is proof of that.
We're glad you're providing help but we do want to point out that over all there's a lot to be done with the P800, software wise, still.

Strain yourself mate.
Gunnar has got a point.
SonyEricsson is as I've pointed out before, probably the company within this particular bussiness that is listening the most to its users.

Nice to hear - hopefuly SE listens to the request for a more transparent information strategy with their firmware updates. This forum shows with a lot of messages on different topics that the users are confused about those updates.
Since I got my first SE device with the P800 - maybe you could describe some points were SE is different - listening more?!
Back to the topic, the program itself
I installed the app, but it doesn't really appear to change anything. Did anyone else notice ANY effect?? I sure didn't :-? :-?

I.e. NOT affecting any _other_ imaging software!
Thanks to Gunnar for the direct support!

Thanks, sometimes threads can take on a life of their own unless the support person is VERY cautious about not providing fuel for off topics.
/gunnar
well just as a caution, that was the last app i installed on my p800 before my phone crashed a few hours later and froze at start up, don't know if any relations there.

Someone implied this thread has become off-topic and I've got to agree, we'll discuss this in another thread. EOD
