I had terrible problems getting my P800 to send email with my vodafone.net email account, although it would recieve ok.
I had tried all sorts of smtp servers with no success, vizzavi.net, vizzavi.co.uk, vodafone.net, vodafone.co.uk, and several others. After threatening to cancel my contract and go to Orange someone who actually knew what they were talking about phoned me from vodafone.
I now have a fully working vodafone.net email account which I can send and recieve on using both dial-up and gprs.
This is what the guy told me. Delete any messages from the email outbox. Turn off the phone and remove the battery and simcard. Replace battery and simcard and turn the phone back on.
Then enter these settings
Internet
{Vodafone GPRS}
Account name : whatever you like
Connection type : GPRS
Username : web
Password : web
Address : internet
{Vodafone Dial-Up}
Account name : whatever you like
Connection type : dial up
Username : [email protected]
Password : vodafone
Phone number +447836900884
Email
Sign up for a vodafone.net email account at www.vodafone.net
{Basic tab}
Account name : whatever you like
Your name : your name
Email address : [email protected]
Connection type : POP3
Internet account : I set to preferred, I can then choose whether to connect using dialup or gprs
{Inbox tab}
Username : your email username
Password : your email password
Incoming server address : pop.vodafone.net
Download : up to you
{Outbox tab}
Outgoing server address : smtp.vizzavi.co.uk
Homes this helps someone out.
Ok, here are the settings you require using an Internet APN, for sending/getting email, and FULL internet access for Opera and so on on the Vodafone UK network:
Account Name: Internet (Or anything you like)
Connection Type: GPRS
Advanced - Server
Username: web
Password: web
Address: internet
(Username and password req'd should be ticked)
Advanced - Log In
Get IP address automatically should be TICKED
Get DNS address automatically should be UN-TICKED
Type: IPv4
Primary DNS Address: 158.043.240.004
Secondary DNS address: 150.043.240.000
Advanced - Proxy
Use Proxy Server should be UN-TICKED
Advanced - Other
Enable PPP extensions should be TICKED

This will work as long as you have phoned Vodafone and have had your Internet APN activated on your account.
Please use the SEARCH for things of this nature as it's probably been asked many times before (Myself included).

Chewie,
The above post isn't directed at yourself, but just the full Vodafone Internet settings 😉
I don't (yet) have GPRS set up on my Vodafone account. Could I use the dialup settings above to connect to the internet (albeit at pitiful speeds) and check my email?
If so, how much would I be charged for the privelege, given that calls to landlines and the Vodafone network are free on my account? (well 200 minutes anyway!)
Yes you can use dialup to connect, calls are 10p per minute and you can use your inclusive minutes. At least I can on my contract. I would suggest you get GPRS activated asap as it is free until June with my supplier which is singlepoint vodafone. Dont know if it it free with all vodafone but could well be.
