I have updated my N97's firmware to the latest version. In the process, I also checked for updates and found a lot of new stuff including the new memory reorganiser and the new maps version 3. whatever. I installed the new memory software then tried the maps update. i got a message come up saying not enough memory. I then read another thread on the nokia site which says you should not install the memory software until you have installed the maps. (I have since seen that people are advising the opposite!). I thought that I would just delete the memory software and all would be well. Nope! I then tried maps again but to no avail. To cut a long story short, I have had to reset my phone back to factory settings and have since tried to install nokia maps but the update fails each time. I have checked all the settings and even the maps that should have been installed on the phone initially will not open as it says it requires a new version. (I may have also deleted maps when trying to sort out original new download).
I am in the uk and with the vodafone network. Other updates seem to have worked and strangely enough, even though I do not have the memory software showing in my apps, it does not appear on the update list (ie as though it is on the phone still).
Any ideas would be appreciated. I am at my wits end on this!
OK... here we go.
1. Download Ovi Maps for Nokia 5800 to your computer as described in my post here:-
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/94872/
2. Now uninstall, using Application Installer, any Maps app's you have (don't worry you won't uninstall the firmware version) and then follow Step 1 in Maps for Dummies here:-
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/90325/
3. Using PC/Ovi Suite's Application Installer, install the Maps app from your PC to the phone (you will need about 20MB free on C: drive for the initial installation).
4. Now follow Steps 2 to 5 in Maps for Dummies.
Hope this helps. 😊
Thank ironass! That is the same issue with my friend. After reading your reply, I called her and got her problem fixed. Good thing I bumped into this thread. You see, this is one great thing about forums especially PR'ed ones because they give you solutions to problems through conversations/threads started by anonymous people. Even if you do not know the person but he/she gives you a solution, it makes the person worthy to be known. 😊

Seriously, glad I could help. There's a little tick and cross box on my posting if you want to add to my reputation. If you use it then Matron might give me extra cocoa at bedtime! :hahaha:
