buy out SPB and put SPB shell in the firmware of all your s60v5 and symbian^3.
i bet you'll make me your chief adviser on receiving the rewards of this step.
SPB Mobile Shell launched
I've been testing this app for the last couple of months and it is fantastic, can recommend it to anyone.
I've installed this app on both my 5230 and n97 mini and so far I love the ui..the 5 home screens plus the business is great. It's like having the switch mode on the E-series devices. I have to agree with some other comments tho...It needs better email support,(ie widgets) the rotate was really annoying on the 5230, not so much with the n97 mini. I haven't had any of the issues with out of memory on either device. I opened 5 apps on n97mini and 3 on the 5230(ovi maps, google maps, email) and had no issues. I don't use my phone for music, but I bet the music app would crash the shell. I feel like the longer I use this the better it will become. I think I'll purchase it at the end of the trial. (I'm over Sv5) I'm looking forward to them making some really good changes, and adding even more widgets.
Hi,
I've been running Spb on my N97 for a couple of days now, the UI is stunning and it's very fast.
It is a ram gobbler but please remember to remove all your widgets from the native nokia homescreen, this should save you about 10mb ram.
At the moment i am sitting here running spb, music player, snaptu, twitter, emoze, mykeylock, and the usual nokia running apps - ram is showing at 13.2mb, the phone doesn't seem to be suffering any lags and is still very fast.
Free Isms is working fine and seems to be faster (though i don't know why that should be) Emoze mail service also working as it should be, so no glitches there.
My battery is behaving as it usually does too.
So, for me, and the way my phone is set up, i have to give it a definite :icon14:

Downloaded the trial to SE Vivaz yesterday and what can I say...loving the new interface! So nice to have a bit of eye candy on a symbian device for once...now I've got the best of both worlds - robustness, flexibilty and functionality of the symbian os with an attractive, fully customisible front end with all the effects/transitions you would expect from a 2010 smartphone. Dunno if it's worth 18 quid but dont really want to go back to the old ui...bit like day & night!
I have a hyperx v3 i8910 and spb shell is pretty good. Does take a while to load up, but works a treat. Very fast scrolling, and customization is excellent. Overall I really like it so far (day 3) and will wait out the trial period before making a final decisions, but so far it has really enhanced my symbian s60 5th experience.
works great on my vivaz, but i noticed on the 5800 (which my friend has) the carousel isn't as good, and only rotates jerkily, wheras on the vivaz it spins around all over the place is full 3d engine showcase glory! Must be something to do with the graphics acceleration on the vivaz...
I have been running this on my 5800 with v50 for the last two days...this is so far the best homescreen for the 5800...although it's not perfect (none are), it does really good job. So far it has been running very smoothly even with other apps open...two thumbs up
This app running on a Symbian 3 device will be a very near unbeatable experience in my opinion. Works fantastic on the Vivaz and they are already working on the new update too.
Will be interesting to read an AAS review.
Installed this on my aging Nokia 5800 and I have confirmed my suspicion all along that this phone has capable hardware only it's under utilized.
SPB Mobile Shell works very snappy and it gave new life to my phone. I'm still in the trial period, but if the good experience continues I might purchase a license. $29.95 might be pricey, but it's better than waiting with uncertainty for updates from Nokia.
Nokia, please buy SPB and make them in charge of all UI design. You (Nokia) already have great hardware with the N8 and the fantastic Qt SDK, the only thing missing is UI design with the WOW factor.
Ran Spb on my Dopod 900 (HTC Universal), and till now, its a device I use. It doesn't feel dated, use resources frugally, and looks just as good as most other slick UIs out there. Looked for something similar when I came to my 5800 2 years ago (has it been that long??) but nothing came close. Glad that SpB made the switch, its nice to see the 5800 get a more fancy UI.
I've been running this a few days on my N97 Mini and it seems that my battery life has dropped considerably since I started using it. I'm going to try not using it for a while to try and confirm that this is indeed the case. Anyone else notice issues with battery life?
I liked the interface on my 5800 but had too many memory issues. Maps crashed when I got a call. Out of memory issues when browsing photos. Others too, so I reluctantly uninstalled it.
I've had SPB Shell now for about 2 weeks and I have to say what a great difference it has made to my N97 classic.
It's like having a new phone!
Why, oh why, oh why, could Nokia not include this I don't know.
I have just updated to the beta build v316 and it uses a lot less RAM (about 8-10MB) and is slick and fast plus it's fully configurable and open to "modding" (see screenie's).
I have to say that I have not noticed any significant battery decrease at all, apart from me constantly playing with it.
OK, I know $29.95 is a lot but believe you me, it's money well spent. :icon14:
installed the free demo and I was impressed at first but then found out that it doesn't replace the nokia apps skin, for example when I start the music player it goes back to the stupid nokia design. after 2 hours with no applications working on the background I kept getting "memory is full, close some applications", srsly ? -.-
totally not worth the 30$, too overpriced!
Nokia, port the new symbian to n97 or at least give us better themes and themes effects for god's sake.
Update have now had this on my 5800 v5 for 3 weeks. I have paid for the app, I got a slight discount since I had purchased SPB software in the past. It still working very well and I think it is a must have for a 5800. Took the widgets off the old home screen and that improved the Ram and I have had no battery life issues what so ever.
I have installed this on my N97 mini and found it to be a great improvement, you need to stick with it for abit to get use to it. My advice would be to removed all the widgets of the original nokia screen and this will help with ram issues. Since i have had this installed i have had no memory issues at all.
I installed the trial to my SonyEricsson Satio and loved it instantly. I used it for the full 15 day trial but unfortunately won't be registering the full version as there seems to be some glitch of incompatibility with the latest update to my firmware, esp when I use the camera.
After taking photos and closing the camera lens cover, the bottom half of my screen goes black. There is a way to eventually get the screen to restore itself but it is quite fiddly and makes me wonder what other problems could be lurking in apps I haven't tried using.
If it were glitch-free, I'd buy it. I hate the Satio interface. Not user-friendly at all and if I could, I'd take the phone back.
I have latest firmware on my phone. The installed this.
Very very impressed! It has made my phone brand new again. It all works smoothly and no problems with ram at all. All my apps run fine including memory hungry gps cygic nav maps.
I can now set everything up as i want- all apps ready to use without having to go through long lists. Can send texts phone very easily. I can do things so much faster now -in fact i do everything i need to do using the various homescreens which i setup to my liking.
I showed my friend and he thought i had purchased a new android phone haha. Now i have android like phone on my nokia 5800.
By the way the 5800 is the best phone i ever had and i have money to spend on whichever phone i want and still after 2 years im using my nokia 5800-i love it. Hope they release a slimmer type fone with slightly bigger screen but keep everything else the same.
Anyway great app-my order is placed!
It takes 20MB RAM, which means I am left with 35MB free RAM instead of 55MB on my N97 mini. Just not enough for most applications
Until now there has been a good user interface for Symbian, despite the number of users out there, "Sebastian said Justus Schmidt, Spb Software CEO. Our objective is to share our experience with users of Windows Mobile for fans Symbian. Last year we launched six projects for the Symbian platform and partnership with Nokia, StarHub and MTS, customization and implementation of product support Symbian. The simple implementation process, manufacturers and mobile operators can easily customize the products for a variety of platforms to provide equal opportunities for all users.
The SPB Mobile Shell product details mentions a facebook and twitter widget but I have never come across them in my symbian version of the shell.
Are they not available in the symbian version?
Yesterday upgraded my 5800 firmware to v51.0.006. It seems I have some more RAM to play with now. With EMOZE running also, I am getting around 47 MB free. With SBP Mobile shell also started, it comes down to 33 MB. before the update it was in some 20 MB something..Others too can give a try upgrading after noting your current free RAM.
I have been using this since it first arrived and its great and have just installed the latest update. However it now fills the whole screen and you now loose the new voicemail symbol.
