At the Nokia Connection event in Singapore Nokia announced the social messaging and music focused Nokia X5-01. It's an S60 3rd Edition handset in a vertical slider, with QWERTY keyboard, form factor, which gives it square shape when the slide is closed. Interesting design. The 1st thought that comes to my mind is this would appeal to the ladies more. Maybe I am wrong 😊
This also reminds me of a square shaped symbian phone that Nokia had a long time ago. It was 7xxx something, had a screen in the centre and had keys all around the screen.
the 7600 you could be thinking of but it was s40. and this new thing looks terrible!
Thanks Cjp. I found the 7600 to be truely ugly and highly non-practical. This design may still work for some people looking for a qwerty phone and a design different from the currently traditional side slide.
7600 had an usuable keypad. This may be ugly (to some, I am sure there will be people who likes it), but at least it has a practical keypad.
i bought the 7600 on three for about 50 quid. unlocked it,kept it for a while then sold it on.bloody awful thing to use.i like nokias original thinking on designs or id have never have owned an n-gage and its qd sister but i cant even see the mrs with this one.
Finally something that looks a happy, stylish phone but with great functionality (QWERTY, camera, music options) and possibilities for many type of use. I'm certainly beyond my teen years but would like to have this one just to stand out from the crowd.
reminds me of the samsung blackjack a few years ago. the design is very cheerful and user friendly! it all boils down to whether nokia has the generosity to arm it with an autofocus camera. Seriously, whats the use of having a 5 mp camera without autofocus??
I had a 7600 once, lost it at nightclub in Chelsea. By the time i had sobered up and realised 170 worth of phone calls to Africa had been made. Live and learn.
The night was not all rubbish though, as half the All Blacks team were in the club, and they turned out to be really nice guys - which was a problem in it self as i had to readjust my long held and entirely irrational view on them. Of course this was back when England could play a bit rather than just pointlessness kick the ball away. Seems along, long, time ago i had that 7600......
Ps. It did have a great trans-reflective screen bit i don't suppose anybody around here really cares about those sort of things...
I think it's adorable and will probably appeal to teenage girls and anyone looking for a phone that can fit in small spaces. it's a little e71 and x6. And it's definitely sexier than that little pebble of a Microsoft Kin.
950 mah battery. That won't do.
