Scratches on E61/E62

Hello all!
First-time poster.
I have a Nokia E62 and the screen cover has developed many fine scratches. I've been trying to remove them but have been unsuccesful so far. I used some Meguire's PlastX but it looks like it may have done more harm than good (i.e. caused additional scratches).

Does anyone know what these screen covers are made out of? Is it a hard/soft plastic?

Also, can anyone advise as to the proper procedure to be used when applying the PlastX? How much force/pressure should be applied, technique, etc.??

If I can't get the scratches out, would a screen protector be effective in at least hiding some of them?

Finally, has anyone out there ever had any sort of success in getting scratches out of these screen covers (E61, E62, etc.)? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your stories ...

Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.

Thanks!
