RealOne incompatible with RealVideo9?

23 replies · 3,965 views · Started 22 March 2003

Anyone else found this?

I'm using Helix Producer (Free one) and it encodes by default in RealVideo9, yet the phone says "Unable to play clip" everytime.

Any ideas peoplez? Or maybe I should download an older encoder..

hi,

the problem is, that the encoder isnt the same like the 3gp player. u must upload it with the pc-suite and convert it.

RealOne on mobile uses the real8 codec.
The NEW real media encoder (helix) uses the latest real9 codec.
Just shows how long this has been in production.. 😉

If you can find an old 'real producer' use that - else you need a licenced version of helix producer to enable real8 compatibility.

I have the specs at work for the ideal settings for encoding mobile content - I'll post them up here Monday.

You can use AVI or MPEG and let Nokia suit re-encode into 3gp, but it's pretty dirty encoding when compaired the results you can get with Helix Producer and RealOne.

Best 😊

I wish.. I mean I wish i could find RealProducer8 or something. But so far no luck. Oh well. As for the AVI and 3GP, it compresses it but its still pretty large in comparison to Real's compression.

Check this out - a link to realproducerGold.
Not sure how old 'gold' is?

I just did a search on google, there were quite a few links, some were outdated and dead but this one still works 😊

Have fun.

Thats odd.. it doesn't work.

Mobile phone says "Clip too large".. its only like 600kb though!

(I'm beginning to realise that RealOne is a very useless program)

What was the bitrate you encoded at - has to be quite low else the phone can not decompress fast enough..

Perhaps 'gold' is too old?

Will.

Hi.

I found you the demo version of real producer8

It's a 6mb file - what do you want me to do with it.
Does your e-mail accept large attachments?
If so PM me your e-mail addy.

Should work for you - all our content was made on 8 and it all plays fine on the 3650.

oh craps it doesn't. but thanks. umm.. don't they have them FILE STORAGE programs? like Yahoo Briefcase?

I'm really interested in seeing the settings; my friend has Helix Producer installed in one of their workstations and am curious in seeing a properly encoded .rm file running on the 3650.

Sorry - I forgot to post them - these are the settings for encoding videos which are to be stored and played back on the phone - if you want to stream the video over gprs then the bitrate has to be reduced to about 20kb Video 6kb Audio..

Suggested encoding parameters for 7650/3650 devices are as follows:

Local Video playback:

Framesize - 176x144
Max Bitrate - 80kb
Framerate - 7.5 or 10 fps
Video Codec - RV8
Audio Codec - 8kb Music recommended but G2 and Sipro audio will work as well

Local Audio Only playback
Bitrate - 20kb or lower
Codecs - RA8 preferred but G2 and Sipro codecs work as well

Best 😊

Thanks for posting the settings. 😃
Hmm...10 fps seems a bit low compared to the 15 fps that PC Suite for 3650 uses--won't the video become somewhat jerky?

Yeah - thats what 'real' suggest, but I've put mine at 15 and it still seems fine, anything over 12 and the eye see's it as motion rather than still's.

cool. I should try this one out. Btw, Real has an additional zip file available for Helix Producer Plus that contains jobs for Mobile content encoding--the specs you provided are spot on. You'll find the link to it on this page.

Thanks for that 😊

Heres a clip that I just love - sure you've all seen it before, but I've encoded it for the phone in RealOne.

My Bluetooth is currently down so I've not watched it myself yet!
It's the Nokia advert with the cat & the fan.

What filesize do you get for a 1 min clip with these settings?

I once managed to squeez the "Reign of Fire" movie into 15 MB with some settings...but I dont remember the settings anymore 😞

Well the Nokia ad that I posted is 178k and is 20 seconds long, so for a minute it would be about 534k

Obviously you can drop the bitrate for smaller filesize's, but then you lose the quality -

Yes! I was able to encode Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You" video using those settings but changed the framerate to 15 fps, and I'm quite pleased with the results. The original mpg file was 52 MB, the output .rm file was 2.3MB. 8)
