Couple of Questions about V4.39

Hi

I'm thinking of having my firmware upgraded from 3.16 to 4.39 - please can someone confirm if the speaker phone problem (ie, being too quiet cry ) is fixed in 4.39, or do you still have to use the false voice tag trick to make the speaker phone louder ?

Also, is it true V4.39 uses more memory than V3.16 and therefore reduces 'user memory' ? If so, by how much ?

Thanks.

I just got mine upgraded to 4.39 and its the best thing i ever did. The fone itself runs much faster, the logs are on time, less bugs, and no, it doesn't take up more memory! DO IT

I believe that you should go for it. They (Nokia) will not release a firmware upgrade if there's no need one.

On my 7650 I dont have speaker problem in version 4.39. I can confirm that it was fixed by upgrading because I didn't notice a speaker problem while I'm on 3.16

hhmmm while on 3.16 last time.. phone always shows "not enough memory" if I'm installing apps though I have more half of the whole memory
With 4.39 I dont see it ... I guess the answer to your question IMHO is "not true"
mine is still ver 3.12. where do you get the upgrades, where can i download it??????????
you cannot download that thing bro,go to your neariest NSC Center to upgrade your f/w 😃

Thanx Guys - a faster running 7650 sounds good D

What icons are different from V3.16 ?

Also, I've noticed sometimes when I disconect from WAP, it takes a further 8 or 9 seconds for the call to end. Has anyone else noticed this - and it this cured in V4.39 as well ?

Any info gratefully received D

Thanx bday

I think you should ask around. I'm sure I've seen people post from Australia with v4.39. I found the same problem in South Africa. Some NSC have 3.16, some 4.39.

PS: you've got a heluva cricket side 😃

Speaker Trick:
(0) Make sure you have AT LEAST ONE valid voice tag.
(1) Now, activate the voice-dial by pressing the voice-dial button for a second or so.
(2) Say anything that will NOT be recognised.
(3) The 7650 will complain "No Match Found".
(4) Now dial the number you want, and the speaker will be magically louder. If you switch over to handsfree mode, it will be MUCH louder. So much so, that the party on the other side will hear a slight echo when they speak.
This effect apparently lasts until you next turn the phone off.

This worked on 3.12 and still works on 3.26.

On the South African versions:
Odd.. When I had my 7650 upgraded (in Johannesburg) from 3.12, all the NSC's (Who're all Exactmobile outlets) that I asked had 4.26. Granted, this was back in December...
I'm pretty happy with this version, though; I can get the extra colour schemes, the phone isn't too slow, and the battery life isn't too bad.
Only thing that bugs me is that my screen keeps getting scratches, but no firmware update will stop that..

Anyone know for sure that 4.39 allows the extra colour schemes to be enabled? When faquick first came out with the hack, I understood that some unfortunate souls (even some with 4.39) couldn't get it working.
I have just today upgraded from 3.16 to 4.39 (in Spain). The Palette Extender works: although you get an error message at the beginning, you take the option "i want to try!" and off you go.

A couple of strange things with the upgrade: I emptied the phone first (of apps), and when I got it back, with all settings intact, there was 5kb less of memory on C...

However when I restored the backup there was an extra 400kb (bits and pieces from previous installs/uninstalls??)

lastly, the IR connection to my PC is now giving me problems (time to search the forum, I never used to read the mrouter/IR threads :-? )

Paul

Hi snorbaard, I had mine upgraded in february to 4.39. I haven't tried to get the extra colors. I read the thread a while ago, but never got around to it

Which BT do you use?

About the scratches, Pity there is no decent covers around for the 7650

Snorbaard

I can now confirm that Pextender, downloaded from Handango, definately works with v4.39

When you run program it says that phone does not support this option, but if you choose to try it anyway, It works without a problem.

Hey Doc!

Thanks for the good news on 4.39!

7650 Covers:
I managed to somehow scratch my 7650's front cover just enough that everything looked blurry. I went to Nokia and they charged me R140 (about GBP 11, or USD 17) for a new front cover (the whole green cover thingie, with protective tab, yay!). It's holding up better this time around, but I miss my SL45's non-scratch cover! 😞

Bluetooth:
I went a bit over the top when I got my first Bluetooth adapter (a non-branded USB adapter), I immediately wanted one for my home laptop and PDA, so I got two Billionton CompactFlash adapters.
All work (almost) perfectly with newest drivers (the best I've found so far are from http://www.billionton.com.tw )
What do you use?

Footnote: I got all my bluetooth adapters for the best price from an excellent company that uses BidOrBuy to sell. You can see examples at http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/customjsp/UserTradeList.jsp?User_UserId=155393
I am in NO way affiliated with them. I've just had some excellent service and 24/7 support.
