Also sold my P800...

Such a great phone, and I've waited many months to buy it... but with THAT kind of PC software... the sync component is just annoying, even with 1.3.1.

I needed the P800 to have my calendar RELIABLE in the PC network and on the phone. The PC Suite is based on a 1991 software development and has grown to a 50MB-RAM-munching-10-task-giant-blob. Support from Sony is virtually non-existant. Just for playing around and making bad looking photo shots 700 Euros is just too much, guys!

Nice toy - DEFINETLY no work horse. Yet.

I am not SonyEricssons beta user.

Although I agree on some parts with you about the quality of the software suite, I have no intention to sell my P800. Therefor I would like to know where you downloaded the 1.3.1 version of the PC-suite. Thanx in advance

I think it's preposterous to whine about an app eating 50 mb of RAM when your average computer today has atleast 512 mb of it.

It does sound like the PC sync software needs some improvement. However I still wonder how many people actually use/need this?

I do use Outlook at work, but I have no desire to syncronise it with my 9210. I tend to use outlook at work for work appointments or reminders e.g. ring so and so at such a time. What I record at work I do not want to be remined about by my phone and vice versa. Similarly we have a contacts list at work (not in outlook) which I would not want in total on my phone, but I do keep a list of work contacts on my phone that I think I mifght need outside of work.

Even though everyone at work has access to outlook's schedule very few people use it. Of all the people I know who use PC's outside of work exactly 'None' of them use a PC based PIM product apart from e-mail addresses.

I think people might start using sceduling functions on their phone even though they do not currently on the PC because the device is with you (supposidly) all of the time. All I want to do is to be able to back up this information so that I don't loose it.

I understand that Synchronisation is very importent to some users but I think the days of the PC based PIM product are numbered.

Well, I may be an exception, but I use the synch software a lot. I've come from an Ericsson R380 (two years) and synched with my work PC every morning when I got in, and every evening just before I left.

It enabled me to enter stuff in my work PIM, and transfer it over to the phone, which is way quicker than entering it in the phone, even with JOT. And the Sycnh software allows you to synch just your personal Contacts or calendar, and not the work one (with Lotus Notes or Calendar, this is very easy to maintain. Don't know about Outlook).

But the ability to synch is extremely important to me. I love the P800. The only really annoying missing feature for me is the missing aniversary synch.

The sync software is a bit lacking in functionality (no support for anniversaries and categories being particularly irritating), but I have found the actual sync process to be very reliable, with no duplication or other problems.

I have sold my Palm and am very happy with my P800. 😃
