5230 - Strange mem card problems

3 replies · 8,748 views · Started 28 July 2010

I have 5230 for few months now, and there are some strange problems with it!

I use 2GM SD HC memory card.

Problem 1 - When the card is in the phone, I can not restart phone. That is, I turn it off and after I attempt to turn it on, it vibrates, first screen appears (white with NOKIA text), and then it shuts off. Then, if I pull the card out, it starts OK.

Problem 2 - Battery life was shorter every day. Finally, the battery lasted for 8 - 10 hours only! I pull the card out and battery lasts 5 days with regular usage!!!

I just don't get it? What is the problem??? Virus, bad card, some application on it (I have games, Garmin Xt, Music, video files, all kind of things on it)...

I think you actually answered you question allready . Removal of the Memorycard makes analyzing more simple :
1) too many Applications , ore just one App , which are/is RAM hungry
2) a corrupted software file on the memorycard
3) don't worry about virus .

BTW : maybe you'll have Apps that are automatically launching at start-up of the device ? Change the settings to : manual launch .

Tnx man, probably some bad app, since more than 50% of card is free! Also, I was wandering if there is any need to purchase Nokia memory cards? They should all be the same but...

The thing is that now, without any card, it is the third day battery shows full, and earlier it would be long gone 😊

I will erase entire card, and install one by one app and see what happens...

Buy Memorycards of only wellknown brands . Sandisk , Nokia , Memorex , etc. I believe 5230 can take up to 32GB sdHC cards . My experience and also from other users is , to use class 4 cards for lesser problems . The class can be viewed in the little circle , printed on the card . However class 2 are officially also supported . Class 4 cards are faster .
To format the card you can use cardreader on PC . Use FAT32 format . However it is adviced to format the card on the Phone straight away or after the PC format . Menu > Card > Options > Format . This format installs the necessary folders on the card . It takes just a short time .
Good luck !
