The Calling All Innovators 'Top 10 App Wizard widgets'

5 replies · 5,253 views · Started 03 August 2010

Nokia's 2010 Calling All Innovator competition has been judged and a top 10 Ovi App Wizard apps (actually Web runtime widgets) listed, based on 'Innovativeness', 'Cumulative number of downloads on July 15th 2010' and 'Quality of marketing materials'. They're all covered below, with brief comments and screenshots, in case you should want to look any of them out(!).

Read on in the full article.

all these wonderful apps will only work on Series 60 5th devices :-| but not on S60 3rd (especially not S60 3rd FP1 [Communicator]) 😞

No, most also work on S60 3rd Edition - I have them installed on the Nokia N96, for example. The only requirement is a working Ovi Store and Web runtime compatibility. Oh, and Nokia enabling them in the Store for your device.

It's possible the E90 might be too old, though?

How are these innovation? The App Wizard just lets you create an app based on an RSS feed and you customise the colours a bit. The rest is identical for every "widget".

It's a fairly pointless wizard just created to inflate the Ovi store app list.

It would have been better to make a web shortcut app that basically allows you to create a widget shortcut to any web site or RSS feed you like, without having to have an app published for each site.

Steve - first, congrats again on making it to the Top 10 for the special prize category based on apps created with Ovi app wizard for the 2010 Calling All Innovators contest (what we have been calling the "Best RSS Apps"😉. The Phones Show app is very cool.

However, please note that in your story you state that: "Nokia's 2010 Calling All Innovator competition has been judged ..." However, the only part that has been completed is the release of the Top 10 list for the Ovi app wizard category.

The rest of the 2010 Calling All Innovators competition for mobile app developers (4 categories for app submissions: Entertainment, Productivity, Eco/Being Green; and Life Improvement) is still being finalized. The winners in those 4 categories will be announced at Nokia World/Nokia Developer Summit in September. The main portion of the contest received submissions from around the world, and we will be very eager to share those results with you soon!

I hope you will consider clarifying your blog post. Thanks - Jason
