The 9210 is an excellent concept which created a lot of interest and was supported by the goodwill generated by the 9110.

Yes it has got a very nice colour screen....but

With update your phone, error messages, creaky phones, legal attacks on third party websites and Club Nokia, Nokia seems keen to destroy the marketing basis for the 9210.

As a traveller, I have had to buy 2 phones because of the reliability. One has 3.18 system software and one 3.54.

System Software
Getting the phone updated took five days and required someone to be available for delivery and collection. The whole process takes only 2 hours I understand. Why can't Nokia make it a drop in the shop and pick up later upgrade. Sadly, although the phone software was updated, no CD came with the upgrade. I wasted a lot of time getting the software from the Forum Nokia website, (Club Nokia seems to provide about as much information on the 9210 as your local newsagent). If not for web sites like yours, I am sure I would have given up and found a blue tooth enabled phone and pda by now.

but the good news is......

Software
For the non-technical, the two best pieces of software have to be TaskManager and Code Vault. Task Manager because as you send faxes, check email and use you calendar etc you constantly get memory errors. This is the only easy way I know of shutting down applications no longer in use. Code vault enables you to store your information in an encrypted form and gives you templates for credit cards and pin nos. etc or even allows you to create your own.

However other platforms have comparable software and more of it so......

Nokia's Approach
Until Nokia were indicated as the No.1 phone company about 3 years ago, they had a much better attitude; that's how they got to No.1. If they forget this, then they may not retain that position. Certainly customer loyalty does not disappear overnight but it can be eroded with time and I note ER6's commitment to cover all Crystal devices.

Well Nokia is currently the only one out there which combines both the phone and pda as seen from someone migrating from the phone end of the spectrum. Maybe Nokia want to become No.2 on mobile phone again so it can offer the level of service and support it used to.

Totally agreed with this post.

I am looking towards my PDA doing the job. Have been considering Ericsson T39m and my HP pocket PC.

THere is now a bluetooth enable CF card which allow my potential purchase of the ericsson talking to my pocket PC.

+ Points of going this route and dumping the 9210 all together....
1. There is GPRS and triband
2. No quarky error messages
3. a reliable interface for excel/word
4. upgradable memory to 256mb (at least) & not talking about microdrives etc
5. Fax/Email/SMS + PDA functions software are all out there
6. MP3 support on a pocket PC.

Man. I hate throwing the cash spent on the 9210. BUt even though I had been a faithful follower of all the communicator series, I am sad to say that I may soon have to dump it off at the expense of losing the love of a keyboard and integrated peripheral.

These bugs are just driving me crazy. Hope that Nokia will do something about it.

MY greatest woes about the 9210
1. Backup. Doesn't work and it gives error messages about this logdbu.dat file still open etc. Shutting down using key presses etc. doesn't giving me the comfort that my data is backed up. Like, doesn't nokia pple even back up anything as a trial??

2. Unexplanable hanging. Duhhhh. losing a half of a fax is not that promising and its fustrating to re-pour out your ideas.

3. Sending out emails is difficult. I dunno about the other guys out there but I can connect to my ISP to download mails no problem. Sending mails out sometimes require a few connections. I have found that this is so because the communicator closes the mailbox too soon before the mails get sent out. So, if you send out more mails (taking longer time) than you are receiving, you are left stuck with a few mails in your outbox until your subsequent connections.

4. alarms dun ring always because the phone hangs. I have upgraded from 3.54 to 3.62. Worst mistake. What will happen if you are late for a meeting?? Not dependable

5. FAX problem. I can receive fax and reforward the faxes I have received. But it mis-scales my faxes!!! I get incorrect sizes.....

6. What kind of games support are there?? Software dun always work or when you are most excited about comepleting the game... it hangs.
arrrrgggh.

Allthough i hate to admit it i agree with all i read above. My 9210 is my baby, everyone loves it and i feel the same. But! It has faults, nokia can't deny that there are a few,and from what i've read i'm worried about going up to v.62 cos it might make them worse. I hardly even bother with the nokia sites, getting far more satisfaction and information from sites like these. Are they suddenly cutting back, having spent too much to achieve the title no.1? I guess time will tell , and i'm gonna stay at the party in case a new crate of beer arrives, but if i disconnect while trying to erase seven e-mails, only to be told i'm locked out by my s.p. when i try again, one more time.Just one more time!
