The 9210 is an excellent concept which created a lot of interest and was supported by the goodwill generated by the 9110.
Yes it has got a very nice colour screen....but
With update your phone, error messages, creaky phones, legal attacks on third party websites and Club Nokia, Nokia seems keen to destroy the marketing basis for the 9210.
As a traveller, I have had to buy 2 phones because of the reliability. One has 3.18 system software and one 3.54.
System Software
Getting the phone updated took five days and required someone to be available for delivery and collection. The whole process takes only 2 hours I understand. Why can't Nokia make it a drop in the shop and pick up later upgrade. Sadly, although the phone software was updated, no CD came with the upgrade. I wasted a lot of time getting the software from the Forum Nokia website, (Club Nokia seems to provide about as much information on the 9210 as your local newsagent). If not for web sites like yours, I am sure I would have given up and found a blue tooth enabled phone and pda by now.
but the good news is......
Software
For the non-technical, the two best pieces of software have to be TaskManager and Code Vault. Task Manager because as you send faxes, check email and use you calendar etc you constantly get memory errors. This is the only easy way I know of shutting down applications no longer in use. Code vault enables you to store your information in an encrypted form and gives you templates for credit cards and pin nos. etc or even allows you to create your own.
However other platforms have comparable software and more of it so......
Nokia's Approach
Until Nokia were indicated as the No.1 phone company about 3 years ago, they had a much better attitude; that's how they got to No.1. If they forget this, then they may not retain that position. Certainly customer loyalty does not disappear overnight but it can be eroded with time and I note ER6's commitment to cover all Crystal devices.
Well Nokia is currently the only one out there which combines both the phone and pda as seen from someone migrating from the phone end of the spectrum. Maybe Nokia want to become No.2 on mobile phone again so it can offer the level of service and support it used to.
