Having not mentioned the Nokia N8 for a while now, it's timely to see a great new official gallery of both sample 12mp images (some of which are stunning) and 'still life' press shots of the device in action. The low light 'Rendez-vous' image is particularly impressive, take a look. Also the 'Night out' one, taken with Xenon flash. (via John Wiegand-forson)

How does the quality of these compare to stand alone digital cameras, whether cheapo, more expensive, or even DSLR?
I haven't used a camera other than my N82's one for about 3 years so would be interested to know how the N8's genuinely compares. (also for video actually)
Thanks.
Note that many (all?) of these were taken with earlier unfinished firmware (much earlier in some cases) so although they're obviously very good, they're still not as good as the ones you'll get with the released product.
hi,
i think damien over nokia twitter confirmed tht its nokia n86 and not n8
Hmm..... ok. Wish the people at Nokia UK would get their facts straight then.
8-(
Will tweak the item text.
If the N86 was this good, then the N8 will be Armageddon inducing.

My colleague Damian Dinning did a great overview of the N8 image and video performance with a large FAQ.

I can say from using the N8 and many previous Nokia phones, the N8 absolutely blows them away. I honestly did not believe a camera phone could be so good. I use the camera mostly at 9Mpixels as this gives the 16:9 ratio, and this is really really impressive. Low light conditions are great and the camcorder function again is great. This phone will redefine the camera market and really raise the bar!
I have a load of pictures I have taken, which on the day the N8 is officially launched I will be posting online.
Its o.k showing of images, but its the Actual N8 we want to be Released by Nokia,as its taken them ages to get this mobile ready for release, who is making the N8 is it definetly Nokia or someone doing it for them,as supposed to be a Top Mobile Producer,Nokia will be getting loads of Questions asked Why? as it taken them ages to get the N8 out for release,as April- October is just showing that Nokia made a mistake leaking the N8 to Early,an got pulled down by Eldar on Mobile-Review an thats one of the Reasons that Nokia are scared of releasing the N8

And which day will that be? It was originally supposed to be today - 25th August and that day has arrived and where's the phone? Certainly not in the stores!
So once again Kevmc, which day is that exactly?
I know we might not want his words, but his opinions aren't in these screenshots. The pictures say quite a lot about progress in the OS and the new features they've added. I totally approve.
