Menu - Settings- Personal - Profiles - General (Personalise) - Message Alert Tone. Pick your preferred MP3. OK all the way back out.

Your menu system may be slightly different, but that's essentially what you're looking for.

yeah, just watch though if you fill it with DRM files or other music as it takes ages to open and you have every single tune available to you... grrrrr

Another (quicker) option to select a ringtone. Play the track you want via music player, and then in 'Options', 'Use Tone', 'As ringing tone'.
