WAP-GPRS vs Internet-GPRS

I am the proud owner of a P800 in Australia, on the Optus network;
and while I can surf WAP 'sites ok, I cannot seem to access standard Internet 'sites or anything else non-WAP.

I am guessing this is something to do with my Optus settings-

I was sent auto setup info for WAP-GPRS, but I don't seem to have anything for Internet-GPRS.
Additionally I tried using the settings on jabber - but I still don't seem to connect to teh Internet properly.

ie, I can surf the Internet fine via Bluetooth + PC broadband; just not with GPRS.

Thanks in advance!

You hit the nail on the head. You only have a WAP GPRS connector. You will need to phone the your provider and ask them for the settings (and pray that they offer the service). My provider started talking me thru the settings, then put me on hold and I lost the call. When I rang back somebody else said they didn't offer an Internet GPRS. I tried it anyway and it worked.

I need to figure how how to create a DUN connection so I can surf via my Win2K box on a permanent connection at work?

I am on Vodafone in Australia.

I was sent the GPRS via SMS.
In Control Panel-->Connections-->Internet Accounts I have the following accounts:
--GPRS
--Vodafone GPRS
--Vodafone PXT
--WAP over GPRS

I only use the Vodafone GPRS as I use the E-mail client, Opera WEB Browser and TIPIC Inst Messanger.

There are some WAP services that only seem to work on WAP over GPRS. I think Whitepages WAP can only be accessed from Telstra Mobile net (typical telstra)

But wap.google.com works fine.

lex_o, did you buy your phone outright? I notice you are with Vodafone and I thought they didn't offer the phone yet. I thought Optus were the only ones. Also, how much did you pay?

Hi there,

For optus, you can access the full Internet over GPRS by setting the address (in Control Pannels -> Connections -> Internet Accounts -> GPRS -> Advanced -> Address) to "INTERNET".

Works for me, anyway. 😊
