Nokia are talking rubbish.

Best thing to do is contact your mobile network and ensure that you have GPRS on your account and what settings you will need (dial number, phone settings, etc.) to connect to Internet over GPRS. Warning though some operators may not let you do this, some will only allow WAP browsing.

Good luck

thanks but my service provider has gprs account and ı got alll details from there nokia customer service says that to me the infrared connection must be internal i mean dongles or devices like this connecting usb doesnt be useful for gprs..do u have anyfriends who uses gprs with these dongles?infrared or bluetooth ports

hi I am using an old fashioned ir. if my mobile can use my internet connection
my pc can also use. and my ir port is not internal. (icq ya gel 😊 ) 95950731

How does the phone know whether the IR port is internal or external!!!

It will make no difference to the connectivity, are Nokia suggesting that if you are going to use your mobile as a modem on your desktop PC you have to have an internal card (usually in the back of your PC) and hence have to put your mobile round the back, supported in mid air, pointing to the IR port. The person you spoke to likely did not know or only had information on internal IR ports, rather than saying "sorry I don't know" they decided to try to bluff you with science to get you off the call.

Believe me external USB IR ports are fine with modem connection.
