Ebook Readers on N8?

Hi All

Has anyone tried installing either ereader pro or mobipocket ereaders on their N8 yet ? and if so do they work ok ? I am thinking of upgrading to a N8 but want to make sure I can still read books on device.

Thanks

Boothy

I am using the same one, which was running on my N97. It works fine.
No probs, and I use it almost every day. I use the outside volume keys for switching the pages. Don't go to full screen, otherwise you have to use the task manager to stop the app.
Despite that, as I said, works fine.

Thanks RanRuobin

I used to use mobireader a lot - I now usually convert all my ebooks with Calibre to to palm ereader pro as there is a 5th edition version with all touch \scroll capability(see link in post above).

I should get my N8 within next 4 days so will hopefully try myself

Thanks again

Hi again

If using mobipocket on my N97 I use virual key to map other keys (this will be probably less effective on the N8 as it has less keys !) see following link : http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/88327/&highlight=virtual+key

Hi All

I have just received my N8 and ereader pro works fine - much crisper with amoled screen and much faster to load books\pages etc . As stated in previous post I now usually convert my ebooks to palm ereader pro format so I cannot see any reason for attempting to load mobipocket.

...yep, mobireader does not work 😡

....but thanks for the tip off about ereader pro :icon14:😊

EDIT: what do you guys / gals use to convert (mainly PDF) files to the ereader format ?

ok, i have got the reader and have coverted my book to .pdb format, where do i put the file in my phone? thx

Hi

If your using PDB - I presume your using ereader pro - if so you should copy ebooks to mass memory\data\others

I installed Mobipocket on my N8. It hasn't been updated for touchscreen versions, so you cannot tap to scroll. :frown: You can scroll using the volume keys though. Also - DO NOT set it to run in fullscreen mode, because there's no shortcut key available to go back to the menu(on non touch phones, pressing 8 toggles fullscreen):

hmm dont know if i am doing something wrong or not or if i just got a buggered copy but i installed ereader pro and all my books just show [] every where no text at all even in the about section of the app only the settings and options show 'normal' human language!

do you have your fonts stored anywhere else? It may be worth reinstalling - how have you converted books? - if you converted in Calibre did you use palm reader option rather than plain text?
Are they all in PDB format? Ereaders primary format

tried to open the two books that installed with it, the time machine and 80 days around the world (both came with the app) and they are messed up so i convered a pdf to a pdb and copied it to my phone and again the same issue

ok finaly got my phone yesturday and tried mobipocket to see :

as every one the touch screen doesnt work in the book but I can navigate in Menu and I can use the lookup fonction in dictionnaries.

I'll try the boothy solution for the keymapper

You might be better converting books in calibre (depending on number\DRM)and using ereader pro which is built for touch screens - I have not tested keymapper on symbian ^3 yet

Do the books look the same when you view them in calibre ?

BY the look of screen shot - there obviously seems to be a problem with installation - I copied to device and installed directly to mass memory - I do not get any menu problems as shown in your screen grabs

If you have a sd card you can also create a directory called resource and create a sub directory called fonts and copy your prefered TTF fonts into this directory - Ereader will use additional fonts from this directory - make sure you copy and create folders\fonts on SD card via a card reader on your PC - you will not be able to do it from your device.

perfect thanks working and readable!!

yea they were fine in calibre boothy, thanks for your help!

albertorrent wrote:hi,

i tried the button mapper but could not make it work on my N8. Anyone succeded ?

I tried this reader (Wattman):

http://www.nokian8blog.info/2010/11/nokia-n8-free-apps-ebook-reader-for-n8.html#more

and I don't like it at all : you cannot access to ebook in your storage card, you have to go online to download new ebooks

No I have not yet tried keymapper - yet - I convert all my books to PDB and use ebook reader pro as it is 5th edition and works well on N8
