N8 reset and Tesco remote unlocking problem.

15 replies · 22,556 views · Started 28 October 2010

Hi.

Can anyone advise what code I need to reset my N8 back to it's factory settings?

Tesco are unable to remotely unlock my N8 (apparently this is happening to many people so you're aware), so I need to wipe it before returning it.

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

On the homescreen type *#7370# and if asked enter lock code (default is 12345) and wait for device to reset and reboot.

Strange, as just yesterday I was charged 20 to obtain an unlock code from Nokia by Tesco :con?

there is an option on the N8 to revert to factory settings with out having to enter any codes.. cant remember where it is off the top of my head but it wasnt hard to find.

Hello,
Wonder if you got instructions which were not quite correct, i.e. enter another sim, and then undo when it reports wrong sim, but no such prompt.

Mine would not unlock either, waiting to hear back from them.

Wonder if you can tell me more about what they said please?

Regards,
Stephen.

Hi all, I have just got the N8 and have put a Tesco sim only sim in it. Is anyone having problems with the internet settings on it? It keeps downloading O2 settings (I know tesco is on the o2 network but the settings just dont work). Even when Im connected to my home wifi connection it keeps trying to connect to the tesco or o2 wap access points.
I know its not quite the topic you started but thought as your on tesco you may have noticed something similar. Also just found out that Tesco does not support video calling! Grrr
Thanks in much anticipation

Since N97 and now N8, Nokia uses DESTINATIONS to manage which internet connections to auto connect.
Go Menu-Settings-Connectivity or simply tap the top-right corner on the home screen.
Go Connection manager-Destinations. You will see Internet, Multimedia, WAP, Streaming. Inside the "Internet", these are the access points which N8 will try to connect in priority order. So your wifi points at home/office should be at the top of the list. Just long press any of them to change the priority by clicking on the position in this list intended for that access point. Then for those that you never want to connect, create a new destination and move these unwanted ones into it.
Although a little more work compare to other brands, it is a neat feature which let you control exactly how you want your data usage wants to be.

If you have already setup your preferred wifi access points under WLAN and also the above Destination with "Internet", you can just turn WLAN scanning off to further save battery. It will still auto-connect via your preferred wifi when you need them.

btw. "Streaming" is for 3G audio/video streaming so it is quite important to get your correct telco settings if you access video on the move.

I had this same problem too and it turns out, in my reply from Tesco CS, it can only be done by cable so I have to send it back to them.
Paid my 20 for the unlock code too!
Missed last post Thursday so have to send it back Friday with no chance of my phone back til Tuesday at the earliest! Totally miffed at that.
Report back when it arrives.

Yeah, that's the one I got.
Wait and see how good they are now

Have you sent your phone to tesco yet? &/or received it back?

I sent mine on monday, i sent an email to tesco complaining about having to send it off, and they said that delivery charges would be refunded. Don't know if this is for everyone, or just the people who ask.

I sent mine on Friday 12th. Nothing at all yet.
Just about to get onto them now. That is not good.

What a palava!!
The "Computers" are down, can't find my phone anywhere on the system.
That plus " It normally takes 10 days......"
I'm gonna call again at 6pm.
They better find it by then!!

Oh' God, that doesn't fill me with confidence.

Which department did you call?

Have you got the number?, i'll check up on mine.

Rang customer service on 4455 with the Tesco SIM card in an unlocked phone.
Went through 2 depts. Peeved off now.

So wound up, phoned them again, still couldn't find no record of it. They said they had a large "pile" of N8's to unlock today so I should maybe wait til about Tuesday at the earliest for it's return.
So annoyed went out and di other pressing stuff only find it posted on the floor when I got back, In A Jiffy Bag Only. NOT GOOD! Why ask you to safely pack the phone?
Fully unlocked, though and now working with my T-mobile SIM.
Only odd thing was that I factory reset before I sent it and when I went to pictures, it just stared back totally black, nothing.
Also, strange goings on with Ovi, support software not loaded via Win7.
Spending the rest of the evening with it to see if anymore quirks exist.
