i do not seem to have this option in my N8
Call -> Options -> Contact Search
this is not there...is it just me or is it a region specific thing, or is it just not there?
User Guide points out there is an option though

On the call menu you can start typing the name of the person or number on the T9 keypad and they will start showing up, or underneath is an icon with a head on it. Click it and your contacts will show up, which you can either scroll or search in the text box underneath.
yes, what I'm referring to is the contact search option that's missing from the phone call section when i start the T9 key pressing. Anyone has an idea?
Do you have any contacts in the phone? Sorry this might sound like a stupid question to ask but need to know the basics first.
Under Options > Contact Serach to On. Does this help?
Edit: just read your first post again! Stupid me. I wouldn't think it would be a region specific function but it's there for me.

It's a region specific thing. Some firmware's disable it (The one's from Chinese regions do for example). Some also disable the FM transmitter. You might want to check and see if that is missing as well.
i have the fm transmitter, works just fine
strange how this can be a disabled function. jeez! not to mention that it's a non-operator phone too. ugh.
yeah, I had one with it disabled... 1st thought... its bust... lol
