N8 WLAN Problems

2 replies · 8,007 views · Started 11 November 2010

This is my problem with my N8

I have several WLAN connections saved into my phone, just for an example they are in this priority order

1 Wayne (Me)

2 Louise (Friend)

3 Mike (Friend)

4 Martin (Friend)

5 Rhema (Friend)

6 Vodafone GPRS Internet (3G)

Now, when i'm home the WLAN will connect. Same goes for 2 Louise and 3 Mike when I am round at their house. However, when i'm at 4 Martins and 5 Rhema's house the N8 will bypass all the priorities and connect straight Via Vodafone GPRS Internet, even though the WLAN is set up on the phone. I've spoke to Nokia about this (At a cost of about 20 in phone calls) and all I get from them is "It must be a problem with my friends WLAN connection" Even though I can connect to them manually, I want them to connect automatically. This was never a problem with my Nokia N97.

I hope I explained it ok. Is anyone else having these kind of problems with their N8, or is it my handset that is faulty?

Someone suggested deleting all WLAN profiles and setting them up again. Now that i've done that, it won't connect via WLAN at all.

Just to be clear, it will connect to WLAN if i do it manually first, but it won't do it automatically.

hi guys

there is definitely a problem thatrequires fixing as it seems to be affecting different n8 units in different ways.

have a look here

and additionally i have found that although in the specs it says that the n8 is capable of working on b/g/n i cannot get it to work on n. If you set your wlan router to b or g or b/g it should work ok. then check you settings and change your priorities.

don't forget to soft reboot your phone afet deleting access points (ie push pwr button for 8-10 seconds till you get 3 short vibrations - no dtat is lost) then add your access points again
